Six times a year for 15 days... a grueling schedule

What do you think... does this photo work? There are aspects of the composition that I like... the blur and the faces in the background for example... maybe even enough to overlook the blown highlights etc. Definitely a theme to revisit... 白鵬 翔 (Hakuhō Sh...

It works for me.

You captured the atmosphere perfectly in this shot! Great interaction between those on and off stage. Hopefully, I will be able to attend something similar one day. Best Fernando

Thank you fernando...

Very challenging to get tickets these days... there are many popular 力士 (rikishi / sumo wrestler) and the events are quite often sold out... the crowd is very vocal in recent years, sometimes displaying banners or cards... highly recommended if you get th...

Loved going to the sumo matches...

...you captured the 'action' better than I could. Of course, we always had the 'cheap seats' and my camera was not suited for long shots. What struck me the most, what cannot be captured on film, is the sound of the wrestlers along with the crowd.

My first visit to the 両国国技館 (Ryōgoku Kokugikan) in Tokyo was a trip...

Not to mix metaphors, but talk about peanut gallery... It was some time before November 1993 because 小錦八十吉 (Konishiki Yasokichi) was still fighting as an Ōzeki... At 287 kg (633 lb) he was a big guy... and I kid you not, when he got up on the 土俵 (dohyō) y...

We were outside before the matches...

...when some of the contestants walked in...they were huge. What is striking is that they are amazingly quick and agile for such large men.

+1, the 立合い (tachi-ai / initial charge) can be amazing

Kisenosato was injured in the last basho and could not exercise his upper body... in the two months between events he gained 9 kg (20 lb)... it seems that the only thing to slow them down is injury...

I think you well captured the intensity of this fight. First, the movement of the main "actors" (both fighters and referee) with this blur "effect".

Second, the "concentration" of the audience with two persons in particular. The other sumo and the girl almost just behind him with her hands on her mouth. Thanks for this shot Casey. Best wishes Alkiro

What a fine photograph.

I found it fascinating to zoom in on the crowd in the background and see the different expressions as they enjoy the contest. I really enjoyed seeing it. Thank you. Regards Kev.

Thank you Kev...

BTW you can tell it's the last bout of the day because there is a wrestler sitting next to the official in the green kimono. It's 聡ノ富士 (Satonofuji) and he will preform the 弓取式 (Yumitori) or bow twirling ceremony at the end of the day's event... He's been ...
