We don't have often the possibility to see pictures and read from owners of such rare pieces and that's why I love being here looking at what people share.
I imagine that what you mention about falling in love with a model and buying it right away, leading to after a year wanting to sell it is something that is quite frequent in watch making and that is the very reason why we tend here to talk about the pieces, about what we feel for a watch and suggest not to take the value criteria too much into account.
Yes, value is important considering today's prices but it is a question of wearing pleasure and that's why one must not be too much influenced by others opinions as it can lead to making mistakes. Of course, the advice are also a part of the journey and helps making decisions too. They are complementary sides.
I also with time start to know what will not please me on the long run (weight and lack of comfort for me for instance) and what is something that will bring me joy with a watch.
Thanks for sharing your decision making process, it is nice to discover about other members' focus.
"The 5370 borrows from the past without stealing from the past" is something very well spot on (and that I would use for the 5270 as well).
There are many areas in this watch showing how Patek masters its field (movement, enamelling, case design, comfort...) and this model will be hard to equal in the future I think.
This movement is my favorite of the 29-535 family and is one of the finest Patek has ever produced. This is visible through the design of the levers, the activation of the pushers, the winding sensation, the finishing level... 1 or 2 inward angles are nothing compared to how strings, levers and bridges are finished on this caliber. And the finishing is, aside of a way to limit oxydization, improve accuracy and activation. For someone who has been using these functions on this caliber, it is way above many competitors.
Again Patek is not what it is today by chance. Through its whole history it has brought so much to watch making. This 5370P is certainly one of the best example.
I'm sure we'll read more from your 5370's experience in the future.
Wear it in the best of health
Best, Mark
