Nautiluses, I love you!

Feb 19, 2014,06:13 AM

Ah the Nautiluses... they are one of the families I like most in the watch world.

I love their sporty elegance, an elegance that could even compete with classic dressy watches.

There is in particular this 70's touch I like a lot as I was a young child at that time (75') and it must bring me back unconscious happy memories. But you already know that fellows, all these little subjective feelings that make what we like and what we don't.

The softness of its curves, visually but also physically, is something quite unique. The RO is a real marvel as a sculpture, more exciting to me than the Nautilus, but as a whole this Nautilus is more appealing because everything is more subtle. Yes, "subtle" is a word that helps describe best what this metallic bracelet watch is really.

This is a family I could buy all the models from as they each bring something different.

Let's make a review of the shots I could gather (from myself or Purists) about the subject.

- The 5711

Some of you know I have a 5712 but, even if I love it, nothing equals the elegance of the blue 5711. I wanted a thin Nautilus and both are alike in that field. But the only 3 hands + date are more restful and it makes an unbelievably peaceful, elegant and fine watch.

The white dial is interesting but I find the dark markers+hands standing out a bit too much compared to the dial. This is what makes it sportier and this is fine when that's what you're looking for, of course.

The original color with blue dial seems to be smoother and more homogeneous.

The shot I took with a friend's watch on my wrist that made me take the plundge... two weeks later.

- The 5712

I won't talk too much about this one, I already made a review, here:

patek.watchprosite.com

but the 240 caliber and its thinness are worth admiring in the collection.

- The 5726

My favorite sporty of the collection (5711+5712 are more classy than sporty from my taste). The AC complication is starting to be a very interesting one and has a well balanced dial (symmetric). I would say, even if the black dial version is nice, I find this color option a bit "sad" and I much prefer the white dial offer.

Crédit: sorry, I don't remember who he is.

Blur picture but very nice color impression:

- The 5980

As for the 5726, I prefer the 5980 white dial which I find very attractive. The watch + bracelet are much thicker and make the watch more bulky. It is perfect for a large wrist or for someone who likes a watch with a lot of presence. In that way, we are certainly in a clearly different field form the 5711/5712 couple.

Let's also mention the 2 novelties in mix steel/rose gold and the full rose gold versions. Again, Patek matched perfectly the colors with the material and spirit of the watch.

I hope we'll be able to see full rose gold used for other versions of the family, especially the 5711.

So, I know I'm not the only one here to like these watches, can you share what is your favorite and especially what Nautilus novelty you would like to see at Basleworld ? Do not hesitate to be creative!

A rose gold 5711 for me smile

Cheers, Mark

Nautilus wish list!

 By: Esharp : February 19th, 2014-07:35
Ooh I'll bite...what would I like to see, Nautilus-wise, at SIHH? Well! I've recently finally got around to trying on a 5711 and a 5712 and, well, it was pretty much love at first sight. Mrs Esharp has a Royal Oak chronograph and I've always admired that ...

I love my new 5711 (1 month old). I stare at it all the time, and always wipe down the bezel to keep it nice, shiny and smear free! ...

I forgot to mention that

non WIS people have no idea what watch brand (or price) the 5711 is. But a WIS will spot in a mile away and appreciate it. Just perfect.

happy 1-month birthday HW,

this wristshot makes it look fantastic. I agree with your second addition there... It's a watch that remains below radar but means so much for people who are into watches. Cheers, Mark

Great Post Mark!!

As you know I recently acquired the white dial 5711.... But I also love the Nautilus line and more so now that I own one. I would love to add the 5712 which is one of my favorite watches and it would make a nice contrast with the white 5711. But the 5726 ...

We feel the same

It's always difficult to have to choose when it comes to Nautiluses. You have a 5711 and think about the 5712, but think also the 5726 is soooo nice. Invert 5711 and 5712 in the sentence and this is my thought. Be strong! Cheers.

I'd love to see a 5712P and and and...

... a new 5980A with a ceramic bezel. a 5726 in Rg with an opaline dial also would be nice! ...

5712 P is quite a good choice

especially this blue dial which is a bit different from the Steel one. As for the 5980, we know the Steel version will be stopped but I'm very curious to discover what it will be replaced by.... Hope this year will be full of surprise, in March or in Octo...

The 5726 is really one I'd like to add, maybe with the white dial :p Cheers Imran, Mark

I love it !

I have this 5726 on my whishlist. Grey rail on leather. Everybody tells me it's an heresy to have a Nautilus on leather BUT 1- This dial color is a killer 2- On black leather, it is just perfect ;-) Imho, nicer than on steel bracelet... Best.

Two thumbs up for a 5711R

I totally agree with you Mark regarding a 5711R with bracelet and blue dial. I mentioned this idea to my good friend Fremstar last week. Looking forward to Basel 2014

The 5980 I've got since last year and I can't imagine selling it. Just love it! It is more under the radar than any Rolex. It is beautifully finished! Everytime I turn it around I can't help it to glaze at the movement a while. It's sporty for summer beac...

Great post Mark

But I think, and hope, 5711 will be the only Nautilus in platinum and never in current collection ...

I hipe so too

This 5711 P seems to have a very nice dial and I wish too this kind of version remains rare. Thanks for sharing those pics with us :) Cheers, Mark

I love it with its white dial

I took the picture standing from the bridge of one of our 115,000 dwt crude oil tankers. Ugly vessels but a nice watch. It's a perfect watch when visiting the vessels. Best, Kari ...

Any will to come back to a Nautilus one day ?

By: Mark in Paris : April 22nd, 2014-04:55
I guess not as knowing you, it might have already been done. The Royal Oak you have is a great alternative too. Cheers, Mark

Who knows? I am in for an automatic PP chrono movement.

But still don't know if it will be a Naughty Lus or a 5960... Best, Nicolas

Totally agree...

I have owned every version of the line except a 5711. I have had 3700's in SS,SS/YG,and YG. All were great and very different. I also owned a 5980 bec I LOVED the design but it just hurt my wrist...too much presence. I now have a 5712 which I think pays h...
