A glaring example of a chronic poor deployant design by Patek.

Hope this Sarkozy incident will have an impact on Patek towards improving their deployant designs. Never understood why a company that produces watches that sell for 100s of thousands dollars do not offer a secure deployant that does not malfunction, and insist on offering their flimsy designs. Only explanation I come up with is servicing dropped watches from deployant malfunction is a very profitable busniess to Patek.

I wrote the following a year+ ago:

I have the pleasure of owning several Pateks, including heavy ones like 5146P and light ones like 5140G. In all watches, I DON'T use the Patek deployants because of their poor design and lack of comfort. Most importantly, several times the strap of my heavier 5146P slipped out of the holding pin and fell down !!!!. Fortunately the watch experienced only minor dents. If this happened in a boat at sea, I would be out of some serious cash to replace the watch. Repairing a broken Patek is not cheap either. SO, I only use standard buckle type straps as they offer comfort, security and therefore peace of mind. I dont want to be conscious of wearing a Patek all the time in my daily life. I want to put the watch on, and forget it until I choose to take it out. I wish Patek contracted out their deployent clasp business to Rolex or Lange or some other outfit to provide their customers a comfortable and secure clasp.

Please, anyone of you who may meet Thierry Stern in the future should tell him this chronic problem for the benefit of all of us.

Have ordered one for the 5205 after I was told that it offered more security and less prone to falling off my wrist. You had me thinking then. Does your concern also apply to the Nautilus bracelet such as 5711/1a or 5726a. Thanks!

You make a superb point. Couldn't agree more with you. What a shame! One can only hope and wish PP will take notice and take steps to rectify the same. Rishad

I warned Thierry Stern about deployante failure

 By: ilikewatches : April 27th, 2012-13:29
I have had deployante failure and badly damaged by 3970P which needed a replacement case (5000SF ten years ago), and had several failures on 5960P. I repeatedly told Patek people and Thierry Stern. I explained to Patek Paris why I was using a Rousseau str...

Discouraging story, but not surprising at all. [nt]

And if I am not completely mistaken: there is somebody in the crowd that looks very much like a well known French watch enthusiast ... ! Regards Moritz This message has been edited by COUNT DE MONET on 2012-04-18 03:24:06

Let us meet and shake hands! Sarkozy's hands at his next public bath in the masses... :-)
