3940J at last.

Feb 14, 2017,00:39 AM

I never thought I would be attracted to a classic Patek watch a few years ago.  Until recently, I really understood that size never mattered.  Luckily, I found a 3940J at a very reasonable price in good condition.  I pulled the trigger and this is the result.

Congratulations for this one.

What I really love with this model is the perfect readability of the sub dials and date functions despite a limited case size. If I compare it with the 5140 for instance, I prefer yours because there\'s more "space" between indicators of the two sub dials...

Totally agree!

I totally agree with you. I love the way this perpetual calendar presents the information in a simple and non-cluttered way. Though on a small dial, everything is super legible. Functionally beautiful design!

My pleasure fuigo

This 3940J was my very first dream Patek but I never really could afford it. Best, Kari

Took me a long while. Years, in fact, to save and find one that is within my reach. Good luck to you!

I have bought in the meanwhile several Patek

but 3940J remains my first love. It's simply a wonderful reference and a watch can not get more classy than that. Best, Kari

Perfect choice.

Perhaps my favorite Patek you got there. Personally I went for a 5140G as I find it more of an allround watch well suited for casual wear too, where the 3940 is more formal imo. But the 3940 wins in terms of purity and aesthetics, no doubt about that and ...

Wear it as much as I can!

I most definitely will!

Size is perfect. Really nice in yellow gold.

5140 is also nice. But the 3940 more charming. Cheers. You have a winner of a pc. Geross.

Perhaps it's an acquired taste...

It did take me some years to learn to appreciate this size and classic dial.

You learn in time and being observant.

But what is important is comfort when you wear a watch. Congrats again. Enjoy your passion. As my wife will say better many watches than many girlfriends. Best. Geross.

Thank you so much! [nt]

Patek first series 3940

 By: jmerce : February 25th, 2017-09:22
Hello - does the leap year indicator/hand sweep through the year or jump at the end/beginning of each year...?

Jump [nt]

 By: tactictac : February 25th, 2017-12:01

Correct

 By: sam1234 : March 3rd, 2017-07:58
The gradual advancing leap year indicator was from the 2nd-3rd series. The 1st series all "jumped".

not totally true

Patek "upgraded" first series to sweep leap year hand when they serviced the watch, this upgrade was due to the cage that holds the leap year hand not being too reliable.... I have been able to have Patek service mine and not "upgrade" it - wasn't easy......

Congrats!!
