Several for sale now on C24. Still 20years old I realize, but not impossible to find a well loved example. Alternatively I'm sure Patek could restore one to like new condition for you, if you have the time and patience.
To me its the right size for an Aquanut. I think its even smaller than the 5165a which is 38 mm. The present 5167a is bigger at 40mm. Its a winner. And quite hard to find. Best wishes. Geross.
But I found it too big for my wrist (not only because of the case diameter but also because of the integrated rubber strap design) so I sold it. This 5066A, on the other hand, feature a straight spring bar system, allowing a better fit around my wrist. An...
5711/5712 (more expensive and needs a lot of patience in order to acquire one. Doesn't fit as well as the 5066 but it's acceptable) Vacheron Constantine Overseas Small Model 37mm (will be arriving in September before I can try the fit. Love the interchang...
Looks cleaner to me sans date, and the 37mm is a very versatile size. Looks like it would work well for casual and formal occasions. The aquanaut doesn't appeal to me at all, although it certainly has a strong following.
I really love the 5712 which would be my first choice. But, as you mentioned, this VC has a better reasonable price... and its blue dial is gorgeous with a little funky side with the sub second dial at 9. Are you looking for a blue dial and a sporty watch...
If you are looking for a sports watch with 37 mm diameter, why not considering AP 15450ST...03 (new blue dial). IMO, also more desirable than VC Overseas. Or if you are prepared to spend more, try a RO frosted gold ;-). Best, Volker
have you considered Patek 3800/1A? There are many dial varieties to choose from and size could work. I do think the 5066 has far more character than many other watches so if it speaks to you why wait? Just go with your gut feel!
I use to have one. perfect for a small wrist, low profile. the blue with a little patina (since they are all going to be a little aged) really pops. At times i regret selling it. mine was ~$12k.

Size is a very subjective issue, but also objective. There are limits to how big or small a watch can be but, even it this case, if the owner likes it like that then he shouldn't do otherwise because some people expressed something different. Just giving ...
