What compelling reason is there to go out of the way to replace all the old dials for any watch that comes in to a service center? It seems to suggest that they want to stamp out any dramatic rise in the price of the old version (due to scarcity value): if you buy an old one for collection purpose you better not wear it bc if it breaks one day you will lose the dial (or lose function of the watch). Not wanting to make any more of the old dials to save cost is not an excuse, it won’t save that much and as I understand it they keep old parts or will make parts to repair all of their old watches anyway.

I will NEVER send my 5711 to Patek for a service!!!!

At first sight, I prefer the previous version whose dial pattern offer a better 3D effect for me. Something to confirm in real with a side by side comparison

Regarding what Patek wants to do with the former dials, speculation should become crazy in the coming years. Best wishes Alkiro

It’s outrageous that they will not deliver the old dial anymore.

The only option now is to never have changed the dial which is what most of us will do anyway.

That’s a real shame!

I noticed the difference between the BD and the WD when I got my BD in February 2018 (I was only used to the type of writing on the WD before). I very much prefer the type of writing on the “old” BD. I would assume it’s more complicated to do than the “ne...

Exactly.

My guess is they identified dial printing errors as a reason for large numbers of reject dials, which cost them money, and decided to change the dial accordingly. However, the new dial setup cost money to create which couldn’t be offset by the savings fro...

Yes, I know

I was implying they would use it to justify the price increase of (if I remember correctly) USD 5,000 (!). You see, thousands of highly-trained Swiss elves will have slaved day and night for ages to make that change to the dial, hence why 1) they take so ...

Totally

All power to the Stern family; I wish them and their very happy bankers all the best for a prosperous 2018. I just wish that I were in a similarly propitious position, with members of the public falling over themselves to pay unforeseen sums for something...

Agreed. The dial is unlikely to break and needs replacement.

I guess the question is what if someone prefers the new dial and asks for his/her old to be replaced. I wonder if PP would do it.

I think it’s a good move.

Coherence with the other models, and is the 5711 is now 12 years old, any change is welcome. I can’t see the 5711 being in production for 12 more years, so this new dial could end up being highly sought after.

It will...

increase the value of the current 5711...

Not sure I like this change either, it's a small thing but it was a nice peculiarity of the blue dial with respect to all other models that's now gone...

I'm also quite curious to see the reaction of the market for the older version (say, in a year from now), it could well be significant if the collectors' reaction will be significant... Best wishes
