A 2-watch collection from the current production of Patek Philippe: budget $150,000

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-03:16
Same rules as before, except this time the budget is $150,000 for the two. Which two would you buy from the current collection that would cover all the bases for a 2-watch collection from Patek? This one is much harder than before. I am going with two wat...

You are right Joe!

 By: sham1 : June 5th, 2018-03:35
This is much more difficult especially as it has to come from the current collection! I would choose my incoming 7234R and the 5170P! The perfectly sized 7234R which is actually a ladies watch! The 5170P and its gorgeous dial ...

It is much harder [nt]

5131P and 5167 A

 By: beejo : June 5th, 2018-09:25
Would that fit the budget? Best, Ahmed

I like that.....

Rubber ring with the deal

From the current collection??? Same than yours. With a joker: The 5930G instead of the Aquanaut Chrono. But I have to see them in the flesh.

 By: amanico : June 5th, 2018-03:39
5230G is a strong choice, but I have two problems: I am waiting for a P version, first, and / or probably a 5231 in white metal. So, maybe not an immediate choice. But since you said from the current collection... The 5930G, I really have to see it in the...

The 5930G is a lovely watch Nico

 By: sham1 : June 5th, 2018-03:43
except that I found it a little thick next to the 5230G due to the added complication. You must try one on soon!

It is one of those watches that really sings on the wrist....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-04:26
....curious to see if they introduce other metals

its a trickier scenario

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-03:49
for me, first time for a while that I didn't pull trigger on something from the collection. Primarily because I am waiting like you for the right variant

That's it... [nt]

Not easy, but probably

a classic Perpetual Calendar in pink gold and either a Chronograph or a WolrdTimer in white metal.

pushing the budget there [nt]

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-03:58

This is indeed much more challenging with the $150k cap...Can I choose my 5131P and the 5968A and pay for the difference? :-)

 By: FabR : June 5th, 2018-03:58
Here's the 5131P, while I'm still looking forward to seeing the 5968A in the metal, especially with the orange strap (will finally do next Tuesday at a Villa d'Este event, where Patek has suggested orange in the dress code! ...

LoL....OK, just once! [nt]

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-03:59

You need a different AD! [nt]

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-04:00

The Other ADs in the area are no different.

 By: nafetS : June 5th, 2018-04:10
Patek Dealers in this area treat you Like beggars, Not Like customers. So I stopped buying new Patek. the most interesting Story was, that I saw a 5168g at a local Dealer right after Baselworld. I tried it on and while asking about Other aquanauts, she di...

Honestly.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-04:16
.....this is just NOT what Patek Philippe would want. Call Ed Butland at the Patek Philippe Salon and tell him you want to be a client. You won't be treated in this way.......

Really?

 By: sham1 : June 5th, 2018-04:01
Why do they do that?! Please excuse my ignorance.

One steel and one gold for me....

 By: keks : June 5th, 2018-04:23
Steel 5711/1A-013.... white dial perfect versatile sports watch Gold 5740/1G.... blue dial elegant perpetual dress watch Two similar watches in some ways same but quite different in spirit....

Actually easier as smaller group of options to choose from...

 By: keks : June 5th, 2018-04:47
But I can imagine myself going for several constellations in the current collection....I am still a bit surprised over the popularity of the 5968A, but perhaps I need to see one in the real to have a real opinion.... Second place combo for me would be a 5...

Wow, tough question.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : June 5th, 2018-04:50
If forced, I would go with 5990A and 5905P black dial. Although, to be quite honest, I don't really like anything from the current range all that much.

Current range has a lot of diversity....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-05:06
.....but, finding something that ticks a box that my existing collection does not tick is more difficult this year

Happy wife happy life 😉

 By: BMR : June 5th, 2018-05:55
Also, Joe, I hear what you say about 5230 being formal. I’m trying an experiment with mine on a chocolate matte brown strap to give it a more causal vibe and because I generally wear brown shoes/belts more often. Heresies two pictures with brown strap and...

I like it a lot on the black....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-05:59
.....as that seems more complimentary to the grey of the dial than the brown. But thats just me. I think teh formality issue is because of the case. The 5130 case is more utilitarian in my view. It can work in a casual or formal way. The 5230, in comparis...

Thank for you comments, Joe. 🙏

 By: BMR : June 5th, 2018-06:09
I appreciate the perspective. I hear you on the case design point, but having it on the wrist a lot recently, I personally do not find the case to be the cause of the formal feeling. To me, nothing says formal more than a black glossy croc strap, which is...

Black glossy always makes me feel the same too

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-06:11
In fact, i always ask for PP to replace the glossy with a matt black or matt blue. Lte us know how teh experiement goes

Nautilus 5711A white dial (for office & weekends) & Calatrava 5296G sector dial (for office and formal events).

 By: ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ : June 5th, 2018-06:00
Based on the theoretical budget, a large sum would be directed towards a Philippe Dufour watch.

A chance for a do-over

 By: Joepny : June 5th, 2018-06:07
So my choices from yesterday’s query would still work because technically the 5960A is still in stock at some ADs. But I don’t want to be a broken record so I would take this do-over and select the: -5968A, even though it might be a tad big and a certain ...

Or titanium

 By: Joepny : June 5th, 2018-06:32
I am thinking of the big strides Patek have made into SS complications over the past 15 years: -Moonphase in the Nautilus for many years -Chronograph in both Nautilus & now Aquanaut -Dual time in both Nautilus & Aquanaut for a few years now -Annual calend...

Makes sense....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-06:37
.....but i think tritium is now against the law

K, I’m just thinking about how the grand complications are always P/G/R, a few J

 By: Joepny : June 5th, 2018-07:16
Almost never in A, except a very rare application-only watch like the 5950A was. Ignore the one-off charity watches made in SS or Ti altogether. I guess another rattrapante could be made in A and it’ll again be application-only which might as well be non-...

But steel should be kept special....

 By: keks : June 5th, 2018-13:20
5004A and 5950A are pieces I admire. Both as I find them attractive but also because the fact they are made in steel and undoubtedly supremely comfortable to wear.... now unfortunately both are at a price point I am not ready for but it is great to have a...

My thought is I would like a new SS ref to take the place of 5960A

 By: Joepny : June 5th, 2018-13:51
Outside of the Nautilus & Aquanaut families. Something in the same ballpark MSRP as the departed 5960A. So it would not be dramatically increasing the ratio of steel in the overall production.

A simple steel calatrava three hander with no date in a new manual movement.... ;)

 By: keks : June 5th, 2018-14:07
Or a new version of 5565A would work for me...

Yes....

 By: keks : June 6th, 2018-11:10
The date is too far in on this.... just like on the 5168G unfortunately.... but perhaps it is less noticeable on the 5968 given its bulkier appearance and orange hand which focuses away the eye... I have no doubt the 5968 is wonderful once I see it in the...

You will probably see the 5968A in the metal well before I ever can

 By: Joepny : June 6th, 2018-11:28
because of my lowly status with my AD. So I am depending on you to give an un-biased take on the fit and comfort of the 5968A when it is released later this year. If it is like the 5960A or the 5711/5726, then it’s a Go for me and I can stash away funds f...

I would choose.......

one of the world timers and either the pilot's watch, or Aquanaut travel time watch.

that would work [nt]

 By: watchme : June 5th, 2018-08:16
because I could put together a bunch of "pairs" that would cover bases. The easy choice: 5740/1G-001 for every day + 5196G for formal wear. Why these 2? (1) The 5740G personifies, for me, the pinnacle of what Patek does best: multiple finishes in an uncon...

5235 and 5712 for me, two generations of micro-rotors.

 By: kykw : June 5th, 2018-09:43
And save the rest for a 5370 down the road. I do feel bad for leaving out my own 5960a black dial. But in this 2 watch collection format, these 2 make a better pair. Ken

Nice call [nt]

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-09:49

Ok. Same rules apply. Selecting from my set of current collection options (WTs are out as I don't own a single one) and remaining within budget makes this easy for me. 5740/1G and 5990/1A

 By: 5980 : June 5th, 2018-11:46
The right and fulsome set of complications for me. And the right diversity of feel on the wrist. All Nautilus, all the time 😀

an inexpensive quartz PP for my wife to assuage my guilt for taking the plunge on the 5740. Also quartz for her so I don't have to explain why the watch has stopped or is a few minutes behind because she hasn't worn it for a few days or wound it. I just w...

an all-in approach!

Like it

The combination (representing sportiness, innovation, great design and artistry) for me would be:

 By: GLau : June 6th, 2018-05:40
the 5235G (new movement and an excellent regulator design) and the 5131P (bracelet for the sportiness and enamel map for artistry). Hopefully with a slight discount and VAT rebate, the budget might just be met !

Easy for me depending if I stick strictly to the $150K and must try to cover all bases...

 By: patekova : June 6th, 2018-16:22
My favorite under $150K watch would be a 5131, but P is the only current production watch. So now I am stuck. $130K leaves $20K to play with and I can only think of one watch under $20 K - 5167A. However, 5167A is limited, desirable, sporty, attractive an...

5990/1A + 5170P and I would miss a white dial in the collection ...
