5740 because it is a very slim PC that packs a full punch in terms of functionality !!
Both are highly desirable, but my vote goes to the perpetual.
Among other things, I like the 40 mm size better for Nautiluses and Aquanauts vs 42 mm.
Side by side an unfair comparison as they play two different roles.
How ever my heart goes to the 5740 you can’t do much better for an all around sport dress watch that will never go out of fashion. Enjoy

Other than that I understand the allure of a PC, but for me it is always more trouble than it's worth, esp. if you wear multiple watches
5740/1G
5168G-001 is not bad either. It is still hard to obtain this watch from an AD. I know an owner of an AD is struggling to get this watch for him self.

I do not have 5940 but 5970G and 5168G
As those are on my list 5168 always impresses me with its simplicity and deep little shiny blue. I love 5970 too but simply 5168 gives more impact on my list. Complications has little tendency to lose impact looks while wearing .
I think adding the 5168G will compliment your 5740G.
And they can be worn for different occasions. Both have very nice blue dials. One with bracelet one with rubber strap. One with complication yet so wearable while one with a simple yet elegant dial.
PC for the symmetry...
...the date window on the other is not very elegant...kind of an afterthought.
There's no contest here really, the 5740 is way superior
But it doesn't mean the Aquanaut is not handsome 😛
