and while this watch was made for Janus 2 (If I read correctly - so 200m with working excursions to 250m), I would've thought all those dives would have been performed with constant full communication during the dive. Not that this discounts a watch on the wrist.
My very roughguess/hypotheticals/guess/interpretations/musings is as follows:
I wonder if it was actually made specifically for Janus.
I can't imagine Omega putting together a different bezel for each dive profile that they would have conducted over the length of Janus 2. Especially since that bezel looks quite 'production' for a prototype. But then again, I think they did 3 OW dives for Janus 2, with the rest in the wet chambers, so perhaps they did. The '20' on the bezel triangle is certainly intriguing...
But....I had a look at old (60's?) USN No Deco tables and I think the bezel works like this:
If you plan a max depth of 40m. Zero the bezel on the minute hand. Your NDL is the time taken for the minute hand to reach the "40" marker on the bezel, so 10min. (USN NDL for 40m/130'=10min)
If you plan a max depth of 22m. Zero the bezel on the minute hand. Your NDL is the time taken for the minute hand to reach the "22" marker on the bezel, so 50min. (USN NDL for 22m/72'=50min)
Works approximately for the "25" marker, but allows 20min instead of the Navy's 15 at 35m(115')....Your thoughts?
Which seems too mundane for such an interesting watch. I'm hoping that Dr Strong comes back with a tale of some exotic table for whatever Heliox mix they were breathing
