Dear Forvesta: Thanks a lot for the superb review and photographs of the new version of the Mare Nostrum! ...

... As an owner of the 1993 version, I personaly don´t care too much about the way this new model could affect the value or collectible interest of the older model.

As a matter of fact, I am not sure if there will be any adverse effect, as I feel die hard Paneristi will keep looking after the original tritum dial watch while those who don´t care about this detail will welcome the new version as an alternative more easy to find than the old model.

I find this chrono a very charming and lovely vintage looking watch with a perfect 42 mm case size. I love mine, and I feel owners of new version will love it as much as I do. The movement is an ETA/Depraz module not in house, but mine has shown to be tough and reliable, and easy to mantain by any watchmaker.

The only negative point of this watch could be its price, but considering it is a low quantity production watch, a real beautiful timepiece and a Mare Nostrum, I feel it will be well received both by Panerai fans and other potential buyers in spite of its price.

This is of course, just a personal point of view!

Thank you again! Cheers! Abel,

Hands on review of the Panerai Mare Nostrum 2017 (PAM00716)

There are two ways to consider a new watch from Panerai when it is inspired by a mythical reference. The first one, which avoids the pitfalls, is to describe it as it is and to forget the historical context. The second one is to address the sore topic: th...

I'm of the opinion that the more "copies/clones" they make, the more value they will create for the...original. From a pure collector's viewpoint, the more clones the better it is. From the weekend collector's point of view...bummer...I won't be able to "...

i have always liked the Mare Nostrum, and mostly for it`s `strange ness` in the scale of Km and interrupted chrono scales, although the small hashes in the subdials are aproximately the seconds of the outer scale. I love the bold case, almost steam punk/i...

Very interesting review. I am scratching my head on that watch.

It is way too close to the Pre Vendome, as you said. I would have preferred, BY FAR, a smaller PAM 300, whose case was 52 mm big... But in the same style than the PAM 300. Or a totally different approach of the Mare Nostrum. Best, Nicolas

Agree with you...

I think the main idea could have been to design first a nice dress watch using this initial design. So the potential customers could be anyone looking for a dress watch or pam lovers which can connect to the closeness of the pam 300.

Agreed !

A smaller PAM 300 in 42mm or 41mm would be nice.

I like it too! [nt]

Do not understand why

I fail to understand why Panerai will make a clone or homage of the 1993 Mare Nostrum. Personally I think creating homages only makes sense when the original watch is no longer readily available on the secondary market. It surely isn't the case for the Ma...
