Throwback Thursday – 1957: Jaeger-LeCoultre Futurematic

Feb 15, 2018,01:48 AM

Remember when Apple released their first computer without a Floppy drive?

The iMac! That was scary!

wink

Imagine back in the early 1950s when Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Futurematic …

No winding button! That must have been even more scary!

A genius watch with power reserve indicator, small seconds, hack seconds,…

A feature that, if stopped - starting as soon as you pick up the watch!

Still that was not enough for the Futurematic to sell enough pieces.

So in 1957, the following arguments were given as sales people:

They even gave the Futurematic a cool logo!

Even so, the Futurematic model did not survive and shortly after were discontinued.

Mine is an earlier version before the special logo.

Still today, even with the automatic hysteria we see from many brands, not many watches are without a winding crown…

Best

Interesting analogy!

Especially since that bizarre looking iMac was pivotal for the brand as it became the best selling computer in history and began Apple's climb to dominance!

Both very new and untraditional...

One a trendsetter, helped by Internet, new storage standards (CD/DVD) - coming out as a winner! One, trying to change a very traditional field where certificates only recently become plastic cards (some brands still do actual papers)... Best Blomman

Out of all vintage JLC, it is maybe the only one that I would like to see in the flesh and own!

It is the only model that does not have any equivalent today, so unique. It is hard to know why it was not so successful then, but I clearly see the appeal today! Thanks for your nice shots. I would go for Nicolas' model as I am not too much into gold. Be...

Indeed very unique!

To find a big size version in good condition is not impossible... Hope you will get to see the Futurematic one day - a very interesting experience... Either you love it or you ... Best Blomman

I have wished for quite awhile now...

 By: watchme : February 19th, 2018-08:12
that JLC would release a Master Control with no crown - just 1 corrector for hours and 1 for minutes. This way it would be a "lefty" or a "righty." Yours would look awesome on a honey-colored alligator! (my taste) -Dean

+1, with a MUT case. [nt]

Sounds like a great idea!

Also for the strap combo. Will try! Best Blomman

Thinking of it, I think the 'futuristic' futurematic logo only ever appeared on the porthole

 By: Clavi : March 11th, 2018-17:31
I don't remember ever seeing the arrow-stylized-f futurematic on any dial other than the porthole (and I have seen quite a few ! )

Hm, you might be right...

Come to think of it, neither have I... Best Blomman
