I do not think that your assumption about losing out 0.5 sec/round when wearing the watch is correct. Obviously you neglected that the crown at 10 has an aerodynamic fairing. When you are speeddriving a motocycle that crown is exposed to the wind most - at least that is what the secret windtunnel tests by MJLC have revealed.
Now my theory - which is mine and belongs to me - goes as follows: by angling the watch while racing through curves Rossi can produce a certain amount of lift using the fairing of the crown which will result in better grip and therefore higher speeds.
We will have to follow his races very attentively to get this proved.
