Visual check

Jun 05, 2011,10:34 AM

Sorry to hear of your experience. This sounded all too familiar to one I had with Richemont (IWC) a couple of years ago, in particular the reference to the visual check.

I had an Aquatimer refurbished and in the process the bezel was changed for a used one that was in worse condition than the original. When I queried this I was informed that their Quality Department visually checks the cases, after the refurbishment, at a distance from 20 - 30 cm (with naked eye) and if scratches are not visible, it is within their tolerance. In my view this is not acceptable, particularly as I could see the scratches in the replacement bezel and I haven't got very good eyesight!

I hope it works out to your satisfaction

So the JLC switzerland disappoints

 By: ijl : June 1st, 2011-03:59
I cannot freeskiing believe it. I picked up my watch on friday as planned. With a new dial face. Supposedly...(i'm sure you see where this is going) Using my naked eye, i could still see a faint mark. Thinking i was being histrionic, i decided to go home ...

shocking

 By: tinker2 : June 1st, 2011-06:18
I can't tell you how much this disappoints me. Everyone makes errors... but to out-and-out lie! I must confess your experience makes me rethink any JLC purchases in the future. They are currently my favorite brand, but I expect at their prices to stand by...

Pas vrais ! .. Jamais .. Beyond, what should happen !

 By: hs111 : June 1st, 2011-06:57
One can only say: - 1/ chin up .. and through ! - 2/ Maybe even consider collecting facts and the docs , maybe document it by pics and write a real letter to JLC senior Management, supported by your AD. It might not change the story, but maybe might someh...

lying

 By: tinker2 : June 1st, 2011-07:20
It's the out and out lie on the receipt that is most distressing. As I said, it makes me re-think JLC as a brand to purchase in future....

Yes, indeed

 By: ijl : June 6th, 2011-04:44
it is the receipt that is most distressing me at the moment. how can one have confidence that what you see is what has been done. There will always be an element of doubt....

Simply flabbergasted..

 By: ocwatching : June 1st, 2011-09:15
I am so sorry to hear about your experience! I am in agreement and you should put together a history and write a letter to JLC. Hopefully (and at last), I hope your dial gets addressed to your satisfaction.

OUCH!!

 By: bobscamp : June 1st, 2011-09:41
Sorry to read of your continued bad luck. Seems like you might have enough info to write a good mystery novel "The Dark Side of JLC". Based on your experience I'm sure glad I never sent my EWA back to fix the flawed dial (for which I provided a photo in y...

the only reason

 By: ijl : June 6th, 2011-04:48
not accepting my AD's offer to refund the money is that they have done so much for me in trying to get this issue fixed. It's their desire to stand by you, do their best and beyond what JLC has offered to do, that prevents me from making all that effort g...

Very sad to hear this!

By: blomman Mr Blue : June 1st, 2011-10:22
I do understand your reaction, mine would be the same. Best regards Blomman

I appreciate your frustration 100%

 By: emcquillan : June 1st, 2011-10:37
I would be livid in your situation. I really don't understand this outcome/reponse from JLC. We see this kind of unethical service from time to time in other cliche areas of business, but I find this a bit shocking. It's no excuse, but perhaps it comes do...

I bet the national JLC manager who called you is just as furious as you are...

 By: Blue_Orca : June 1st, 2011-10:49
This sounds like a series of unfortunate oversights at the JLC factory. i.e. by the watchmaker who thought the dial was good enough as is, and the customer service rep who failed to correlate the paperwork and the actual services performed. I can imagine ...

I absolutely agree with you

 By: ijl : June 6th, 2011-04:53
JLC being one of the top ranked watch companies, I also expect nothing but the best. When one purchases such watches, one expects the matching JLC's top notch standard of service, and reflection of what they say they represent. ie, you enter the 'lifestyl...

Sorry to hear

Not at all. I hate when this happens. Hope they fix it soon. Thanks. Vte

The number of incidents with imperfect dials ...

 By: sw-rick : June 2nd, 2011-02:48
is certainly beginning to become worrying. My brand new master compressor also came with an "unclean" dial, and that was directly from the factory 2 years ago. I really start to wonder if they are really using trained watchmakers in every step at the fact...

Amvox2

 By: tinker2 : June 2nd, 2011-06:54
Yeah, as I mentioned earlier, I have a blemish-- a line radiating out at exactly the 7 o'clock position on the silver part of the original Amvox 2 dial. It's really only noticeable in direct sunlight, but it is over 1/4" long! I'm wondering if I should ha...

I too worry about the 'next'

 By: ijl : June 6th, 2011-04:55
service with JLC. what else do i need to endure? I really do sincerely hope that JLC sorts the after-sales issues out.

my ultra thin came with a fiber in the dial

mine too

 By: ijl : June 6th, 2011-04:57
would be close to 7~8 months if i accept the 'second' watch face replacement... I agree whole heartly, it's not acceptable from brand like JLC....

i wonder if they realize that REALLY good after sales service...

 By: Echi : June 2nd, 2011-20:12
will translate to more watch purchases. and in general, that bad service just affects the whole higher-end watch category as a whole. "it's hard to service/repair that thing 5 years down the road... i'll just stick to my regular moonwatch"... there you go...

you know

 By: ijl : June 6th, 2011-05:00
with this experience and your statement that people 'stopping' at certain price point, indeed has made me re-think about working my way up to a more complicated watches in the future. I was aiming for a tourbillion watch or two in the future, but i do not...

I've never had good experience with after-sales services

 By: vlkcheng : June 5th, 2011-17:14
I have several watches going for their routine service in the past and they all came back with either minor problems that I just put up with or scratches and dings on the watch cases. I can polish those dings and scratches off myself but I have to put up ...

It's really disappointing and unacceptable

 By: ijl : June 6th, 2011-05:09
Your experience seems to be what many of the watch afcianodos are experiencing and my experience is another that adds to that list. I believe, sending a watch back for a full overhaul is something that one looks forward to, because you know it's going to ...

G.O.

 By: tinker2 : June 6th, 2011-06:11
I have only had one watch go in for service-- my G.O. Navigator, which was losing 5 mins a day about 2 years after I bough it, and I took the opportunity to replace the caseback with with display back (not sure I should have, but...) Anyway, it was a perf...

Thanks for sharing your experience, and very sorry that it happened.

 By: amanico : June 5th, 2011-21:03
I'm sure that JLC will read your post, and take note of your observations on what happened to your watch. I'm so sorry for you. Keep us updated, please. Best, Nicolas.

thanks

 By: ijl : June 6th, 2011-05:12
thanks nic. Do JLC monitor forums like this? If they do, i hope they take notice of what aficianados are complaining about and make some changes. Plus, if they are monitoring, my AD's service and the upper management has been exceptional. I highly and per...

under which you would accept your money back! Anyways, good luck on the new arrival.

Replacement watch

 By: tinker2 : June 8th, 2011-13:08
I would go for the replacement watch. While they HAVE totally messed this situation up, we can at least HOPE this is poor decision on one watchmaker's part... and that JLC management wasn't aware of it... and that they WILL make their customer satisfied. ...

IJL, could you please send me, BY PM, all the details?

 By: amanico : June 8th, 2011-02:55
JLC just sent me an email and wants to check all this... I told you they read us... Best, Nicolas.

Unacceptable....

 By: MiniCooper : June 8th, 2011-11:47
A situation such as this should never happen in a company such as JLC.... If this is the case indeed, then JLC should really make it up to you... Stating that the dial was replaced and no doing it is not only unacceptable but alsoi illegal.... If I was ma...

imo: this is to save costs / reduce expenses

Similar experience

 By: midlc88 : October 27th, 2011-06:48
I echo the sentiments here. And it appears the bad quality and the unacceptable situation of watches being returned in worse state then when they are sent it does happen more than ocasionally. I won't do a sob story but i will confirm the same fear i have...

3rd World

 By: fcus : October 27th, 2011-08:50
Could you kindly elaborate on this "3rd world" that you refer to? And perhaps tell me more about the 1st, 2nd, and any other worlds we live in or are neighbours to? I couldn't care less about semantics but you use an incredibly outdated phrase that explai...

I totally agree with you, and would appreciate if the term Third World would be avoided.

Then please delete or cancel my post. I stand by what I said and the term "third world" is a term that is used commonly in all forms of context so if that is below the standard of political correctness at this site I will note that regardless of my person...

Maybe before you respond you...

 By: midlc88 : October 27th, 2011-18:00
Maybe before you respond you might care to do some basic due diligence about where the term zenophobia actually derives from. Having a word with greek background does not mean a greek philosopher was involved. And my only context of feedback is regarding ...

It goes

 By: gup502 : October 28th, 2011-06:15
In my opinion, it all goes into the individuals (irrespective of where they come from). That may explain the reason for imperfection in the work carried out back at JLC. It is the passion that matters most. Just think about what makes a perfect cup of tea...

Totally agree with that. I saw problems everywhere in the world, and not only ...

 By: amanico : October 28th, 2011-08:30

Now that this has resurfaced from June.....

and I somehow read through the whole thing...I'm curious as to what the outcome was! Did you take delivery of a replacement? How is it? Love it?? On a side note, I'm a new JLC owner, have posted 2 of my JLCs here not long ago (now 3...well technically one...

Here is the link JLC.watchprosite.com I presume he's enjoying the lovely watch! Not to inflame passions or anything, but your story is also disturbing.

haha yes...

 By: kelsiph : October 28th, 2011-00:44
i really think it might be the same ding!! but i like the piece so much it doesn't matter and I cannot imagine having to send it off for a long long long time. I always wonder why the servicing side of time pieces take sooooo long.

I ordered a TT DSA European version and thinking of picking up a MC. I hope JLC does the right thing and takes care of their clients.

In most of the cases, there is no issue, and when there is...

 By: amanico : October 28th, 2011-00:51
Most often, the issue is positively solved. BUT, that being said, a brand, every brand must have to get tha ambition ( ambitious goal ) of 0 flaw, and to have a 100 % efficient service. You shouldn't worry too much, IMO. Best, Nicolas.

yup, i wouldn't hesitate with the MC

 By: kelsiph : October 28th, 2011-02:36
and the DSA is awesome. i love these tributes. I wasn't from the era so didn't get the chance to own one, so it's a great opportunity. I know it's not quite the same but these tributes will be special to me in 30-40 yrs time.

Future classics, for sure.
