Great choice - like the strap and the blue flecks in case

Apr 12, 2024,13:39 PM

I always think W&W is fun, but a bit of a distraction.
There will always be something new, while others will be no longer made.
Go with what you enjoy - I'm hankering after what are neo vintage pieces at the moment. I suspect that won't change in the short run & I know I've probably got too many watches already.
Cheers

Today's choice to fight the price madness from W&W.

Have you seen anything relevant and interesting below the 10 k mark (maybe Frederique Constant) ??? Are the "luxury watch" brands no longer targeting the first 10% of the income scale but rather the first 2% ? Anyhow,I still feel that this Tissot is a coo...

I have not.

 By: Jay (Eire) : April 12th, 2024-11:45
But I don’t believe I’ve seen everything yet. The one exception perhaps could again be Tudor and the GMT BB58 specifically. However the vintage aesthetic will not appeal to everyone, and I understand that a Rolex derivative also loses appeal for some. I’m...

I would also add the new Grand Seiko SLGW003

It comes in a little over the $10K however. But it does appear to be an interesting package, and in a good (sub 40mm) size.

I think that one looks great

Might be my first GS!

Lots of Nich Brands stepping in - like Nivada, Airain, Mido, Vulcain!

All great watches with great quality and good price relation… 👍🏻 Another advantage: not everybody have them (yet)… Here some examples… ...

Interesting point

 By: ArmisT : April 12th, 2024-12:08
It almost seems to be an industry strategy, which I can understand. Need to be thinking ahead.

I just wonder if there is still a market for watches at these prices.

 By: jlux : April 12th, 2024-12:40
As an example,my AD has had JLC for decades and it was one of their best selling brands ...still 3-4 years ago. Now they tell me that the customer interest for this brand is dead and that they did not sell a piece for ages.

True, alas.

 By: amanico : April 12th, 2024-13:06

+1. My impression is when regularly checking the windows of the watch stores that besides the very hot models that never show up, most models are sitting there and will not

 By: hora12reborn : April 12th, 2024-20:37
find a customer soon even not huge discounts will be offered. The sell in has been strong but he sell out looks very weak.

I guess inflation is real, despite what some politicians may tell you.

I think a lot of brands have raised prices because some brands are still not available and cannot meet demand. Rolex, of course, can double its production and still not meet the demand, especially for stainless steel, sports watches. But if you look at so...

Many brands have raised their prices 30-40% over the last 3 years.

 By: jlux : April 12th, 2024-12:43
This is way more than inflation !! Also new models, with sometimes only cosmetic changes, are immediately 10-20% above the predecessors.

+1

+1 Alas so true.

 By: hora12reborn : April 12th, 2024-20:38

It’s really insane.

 By: gary_g : April 12th, 2024-20:40

Yes,this is also my strategy.

 By: jlux : April 12th, 2024-13:03
I am definitely out of the game for any of these new watches and enjoy what I have!

Ah,yes, I forgot about this one.

 By: jlux : April 12th, 2024-13:14
Tudor in general is still one of the very good brands with reasonable pricing.

Yep!

 By: amanico : April 12th, 2024-20:04

Longines is certainly still a great value out there.

 By: jlux : April 12th, 2024-13:40
Although they also have (as most Swatch brands) raised their prices by 30% over the last 3 years. They did it quietly with countless small increases !

Sure thing! Cheers

Great choice - like the strap and the blue flecks in case

I don't know if this counts...

 By: blau : April 12th, 2024-14:02
but I think the new smaller sized Doxa 200Ts are REALLY appealing

They are nice for sure.

 By: jlux : April 12th, 2024-14:44
I was probably more referring to watches with more elaborate movements and refined case/dial work.

I would add some of the 31 Nomos, the Tag Heuet

 By: aWtchslvr : April 12th, 2024-16:54
Carrera glassbox and the Zenith defy extreme diver (though a bit above 10k). Yes, my income grows slower than the prices… Of course, I like that Tissot. Best. ...

I'm 100% with you,

 By: clemens m : April 12th, 2024-18:13
both in my disappointment with W&W 2024 releases and generally the price bracket where most interesting brands position themselves today. My solution is going vintage, I am still having a hard time to comprehend how many amazing vintage watches from brand...

Many mistakes to be made

 By: clemens m : April 13th, 2024-14:35
considering vintage, but dip your toes in and gather as much knowledge as possible and you will see how rewarding buying vintage watches can be as long as you do your homework.

This is my next target. It covers all bases.

Enter text ...

Any of these would be a great addition.

 By: jlux : April 12th, 2024-19:50
Of course biased with this one . ...

You are so right. Price madness especially when one has been collecting for decades and one knows the old historic price levels. I just mentioned in one thread that FC and perhaps the steel Tudors

 By: hora12reborn : April 12th, 2024-20:30
are the only ones that have remained reasonably priced among the photo line-up published by a fellow WPS. Secondary market will get even more interesting in the upcoming years for finding 90% of the models nowadays presented at a price more close to reali...

Going preowned is definitely the only reasonable alternative!!

 By: jlux : April 12th, 2024-21:20
And the Tag Heuer Carrera's are certainly a quality product at pretty fair price levels : especially the newer glassbox models are very attractive.

I agree

 By: andrea~ : April 12th, 2024-21:50
That's why I love brands like Rolex and Cartier, which offer both mid level and high level watches

+1 !!

Omega

 By: SayNo2Babies : April 13th, 2024-16:48
Maybe it's gotten boring, but they do put a lot of value under 10k. The coaxial escapement is a marvel of industrialized engineering. And yes, before anyone says it, I do wish they could solve the thickness problem.

Omega for sure.

 By: jlux : April 14th, 2024-08:34
I did not mention them as I was referring more to the brands present at W&W. But then Omega also raised their prices by 30% in the last 3 years and they are no longer the great value that they used to be.
