Friends,
Despite a sinking viral upper respiratory illness, we made a trip to Amsterdam.
Having changed aeroplanes and been in transit at Schipol airport for decades, we've never been in the city. I've been trying to visit the canals of Amsterdam for 40 years.
I finally made it just before Easter this year.
Here is a study of the bicycle terrorists, Superfast Chopard on the canals and Liquid Studies in Amsterdam.
You are more likely to have an altercation with a cyclist than any other form of traffic in Amsterdam. They are silent assassins; one second it looks safe and the next, they are on top of you!
Many of the bicycles seem to have no riders for days, weeks and months.
They just hang around railway stations and bicycle parking structures.

Canals are safer as each captain is trained. Some are even graduates of the maritime academy.

Canal boats have glass roofs, which afforded a lovely view of the falling rain....

The Dutch know about three things: beer, cheese and wet engineering.
Here are some photos of their liquid engineering....
They don't even mind drinking German beer.

Of course, the forerunner of gin or jenever is a fascinating study in liquid engineering.
There are so many varieties and ages of jenever to explore; it's a PhD-worthy topic.

The Chopard was a useful companion in Amsterdam.
Precise to check train and tram departure times.
Water-resistant case and strap for the continuous rain and potential fall into the canal.
Stylish but not too ostentatious to blend in with the Dutch.
What do you think?
