Martin, why do most of these high end companies not excel at production of both? Are the mechanisms/movements that drive watches and clocks very different, or do most companies just choose to focus on one or the other. I would be interested if you know. T... 

It is a matter of demand, that for wristwatches far exceeds clocks (and pocket watches). It is a matter of economics rather than technical capability. Few companies make both today, though there are still specialised clockmakers like Erwin Sattler. Mechan... 

Hi Stewart, SJX has said it all and it is a great pity that those beautiful clocks cannot remain in production, like JLC still has their famous Atmos clocks. But once in a while Cartier does release a mechanical clock, like this very recent, 'Officer Styl...  

You really have to tool up to make clocks and this is not an easy task. Setting up a clock production line takes as much as making a watch production line. Cartier is one of the few brands that still make high quality clocks, they other that comes to mind... 

Thank you for the info. I assumed that the production of watches and clocks would have a large amount of redundancy, but it sounds like it is necessary to have two completely separate production lines, which is costly if clocks do not sell as well as watc...
