Bad Experience with Breguet (A must Read)

Feb 26, 2007,00:50 AM

hello every one.I have had very very bad time dealing with breguet.

The watch was purchased from a breguet store and it was sold in a defective condition. The ref is 5157 in white gold.I cannot belive how a company can do this. The watch would not start after winding it or moving it in a circular motion.I have learnt that they only test the watch for 48 hours in each factory (where it is cased up and then where it is packed) so only 96 hours in total.

The store manager sold said that its ok if the balance wheel does not move the watch will still work, can you belive that.I wrote a letter to the CEO of swatch group and did inform via fax about the matter. At first it was taken very lightly. The brand manger gave me many stories about various customers but when I questioned him what I had to do with all this he had not answer. He had passed a few rude comments as well. This happend 3 weeks after purchasing the watch.I hardly wore the watch and that how I found out the fault. When I called the brand manager he once in a rude harsh tone told me that bring the watch back and take you money.I told him I ma not interested in the money but I only want a non defective watch.I have not spoken to any person that is so rude. The complete blame was on me.They are so commercial that I think belong to the bottom of the chain. If they say they make 15,000 ors so watches cant they make them right.

When in contact with breguet in switzerland they did hear my story.I was promised a test result on the watch atleast twice but they did not send any details to me, just shows that is company is a total rip off and is just a revived brand. Its a alsmost closed sown company that is try to come up buy swatch group pumping money in it.Breguet was great a long time ago now it looks like they are gold cased up swatches

Finally when the watch reached the store where it was purchased(middle east breguet store) the VP of finance in switzerland called me mentioned to me that the watch is faulty and needs to go to switzerland. When it reached switzerland I was informed in a few hours that the watch is defective. Then the brand manager called me and gave me the following options to repair the watch or the replace it with the same modle or any model priced higher and I have to pay the difference.I asked for my money back and then he said he would call me back and inform me.When he did he said he wants me to fax him a letter saying that I will not buy a breguet watch ever again and said that comes from the CEO Mr.Hayek.Well I would any ways never buy one any ways.Switzerland was to send me the test results of the defective watch but have not done so.They have played it very smart.

Also I was informed by the brand manager and the store manger that the movement in the 5157 is a Breguet movement but switzerland did confirm its a FP 71 base and also mentioned that some parts a not made in house but are only made for Breguet.

Money was never the issue here, but when you buy a high end watch you want a watch free of defects and prombles and you want to deal with people of a high calibre and not some cheap brand manager who passes rude remarks.

I have had 4 weeks of dealing with breguet finally they refunded my amount.

I  will never buy any swatch product ever again.Trust me its all roses when you buy it but the real thing come only when there is a problem and that was the worst I have ever dealt with.

There ego was still up there went I went to the store to hand over the bill for the watch. The worst brand I have ever come across.

Bad quality and the worst service possible.Insulting and make you feel low.

You've made some sweeping generalizations about Breguet and even Swatch just from a single incident. I don't know the entire story here cause we haven't heard Breguet's side, but it seems as if you must have reallllllly pissed them off if Hayek even reque...

 By: happy_wis : February 26th, 2007-17:04
I'm sorry to hear that but I think it happens in the real world Having bad experience in watch shops is not that uncommon... I believe that it is mainly because: 1. The shop manager / sales don't know their stuffs 2. The shop manager / sales believe that ...

I once sent a very fine watch that ran perfectly to someone and by the time it got there

it would not run right. It was such a problem the company replaced it under warranty. I believe that shipping can be tough on some watches. Also mechanical watches need service no matter who makes it. A very large watch dealer told me that the only watch ...

Why is everyone blaming the victim?

 By: Westlawnyc : February 27th, 2007-18:26
At face value, this man has been given the run around. True, the AD may have been the cause of all the problems but the AD is the "face" of the company. Newbie or not (I do not know the extent of this man's collection) the AD should have done EVERYTHING p...

what victim?

Hi West, Feeling let down when one buys an expensive timepiece and it has a problem is completely understandable. These are complicated, hand assembled devices and will always have a greater than 0% failure rate. That's why a warranty period exists. Going...

Typical lawyer

 By: autowind : February 28th, 2007-22:00
before anyone decides to file a law suit or ask Congress to enact some new legislation to protect the underdog, I'd like to hear the other side of the story. I doubt we'll get that opportunity because it is unlikely Breguet is going to debate this in publ...

if the watch was abused why would they refund my amount

 By: mustu : February 28th, 2007-22:23
Hello If the watch was abused why would they refund my amount. Guy you are not getting my point here. The level of service I recived is what I am troubled about.I did not care about the watch not working cause I know they would fix it or so. The watch was ...

May I ask...

 By: happy_wis : February 28th, 2007-22:53
for more details about the problem of your returned Breguet? Is it like this: - The watch was running fine until all its power was used up. - Then you wound the watch manually but the watch was still not working (as you can see the balance was not moving ...

May I ask

 By: mustu : March 1st, 2007-02:21
Well if the watch would start working it would keep perfect time. Once the power was used up then and after winding the watch it would not start. It would also not start unless you moved the hours hands. Once or twice it did start when you shook the watch....

Damn proud to be a "Typical Lawyer". nt

mustu, was this AD in Dubai?

I'm flying there next week, and want to be sure that I don't deal with them if they are the ones who mishandled this affair. Thanks, George

This has gone too far

Let's not malign someone just because one person may or may not have had a problem. We still don't know both sides of the story. Anyone could post about a bad experience real or not and no one would know the difference. Perhaps it's time to close this thr...

Or get Congress to enact a law? :) nt

G'day, i´d guess all points are made; the "other side of the story" of Breguet/SwatchGroup/Retailer is unlikely to be present in a public medium, therefore further spinning forth this exchange is unlikely to result in something productive for anyone invol...
