Pebble Beach 2017: Quail, A Motorsports Gathering

Aug 27, 2017,00:25 AM

During Monterey car week, there are many events; but there's one definitive event - Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

Here are some photos of the incredible event at Quail.

The entrance is guarded by porters and security.

No shortage of elegance, wine, music, cars, and good food.

A Rimac sports car.

Still in the concept stage, but former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond had the displeasure of crashing one in Goodwood earlier this year.

Maserati doing what they do best.  Sitting still and looking good.

If you haven't seen a Koenigsegg, be prepared to see several!

Notice the entire car is skinned in carbon fiber.  Exquisite.

The car is handsome, but she's entirely something else.

This is Rolls Royce's new Phantom flagship.

The interior looks more conventional and cluttered with more buttons.  The previous Phantom model had a minimalist and simplistic aesthetic.

The dashboard has a "gallery" and you can choose what kind of artwork to install in your gallery.  Rolls Royce has several works of art on the menu, but you can also commission your own.

The previous Phantom proudly touted it had a completely flat floor in the rear so rear passengers didn't have to sit awkwardly and could lounge in the rear as a sofa.  The latest Phantom has the conventional torque tube hump.

A line up of some exquisite cars; a Mercedes SLS, Disco Volante, Alfa Romeo 8C, and even a helicopter in the background.

These Ferraris need no introduction.

An AMG GT Concept Sedan.  Porsche's Panamera will be getting nightmares soon.

AMG engines in the 45, 55, 63, and 65 are hand built by one master craftsman.

An AMG hybrid powertrain; gasoline and electric motors.

They also left the keys inside!

The new McLaren 720S.  Looks good!

The headlamp is integrated into the cooling duct.

A Bell 429 was here to tempt you to start a new hobby...  An aviation hobby.

Like Koenigsegg, there were also several Pagani clients who showed their cars at Quail.  With nearly a dozen vehicles, this is perhaps the greatest gathering of Pagani vehicles at any given time.

An exquisite interior for an exquisite exterior.

Coffee table anyone?

Ken Okuyama, the designer of many special vehicles, including the Ferrari Enzo.  Definitely a name in the industry.

Singer.  Enough said.

The Lamborghini Hurracan Performante.  The current fastest car on the Nurburgring.

A forged carbon fiber rear wing that looks similar to an Audemars Piguet wristwatch.  This wing is part of the secret sauce of active aerodynamics Lamborghini uses to create a car with incredible handling.

Infiniti had this exquisite homage to vintage open wheel racing.

That's an ultimate looking machine.

GT2 RS.

It's got a little "Exclusive Series" tattoo.

The winner of this year's Quail show.

Bugatti; still special.

The Alfa 4C is always a happy machine that's ready to go.

Come 4PM the cars drive off and the helicopter takes off.  It's an awesome event that only comes around once a year, and I'm already counting down the days to the next one.

Many thanks to the team at Quail for putting on an awesome event!

is in my opinion the most appealing EV at this point in time. Both the powertrain and especially the design are top of class. I also happen to love the orange learher color in the new Phantom. It may be somewhat more conventional but its likely in part du...

And you most certainly lived up to expectations :)

What a great report - love the pictures! As you said, keeping that five year old alive is essential to long term contentment in life

Great report....

beautiful California weather it was. makes me miss the trips to Pebble Beach. the Singer sings to my heart. you're right it needs little words.

I hope those AMG assemblers are just doing a "mock" engine

because with all the beautiful ladies strutting about at the Quail, it would be easy to lose concentration and thus forget a piston or something ... Thanks for the report. Mike

Can you spot the watches??

For the past few years Richard Milles have been the timepiece of choice at Quail.

You see Richard Milles en masse. Next come Rolex, Patek, APs, Breguet, and IWCs.
