SIHH 2017: Audemars Piguet Live Photo & Report

Jan 16, 2017,14:40 PM

Some have already reported here and you have seen most of them, but I saw something very special today.

Overall, I am impressed with the collection this year from Audemars Piguet - many brands seemed to be showing less "challenging" or "innovative" models while Audemars Piguet was showing very challenging and attractive models.  They are all interesting.  In other words, Audemars Piguet has not changed as has the environment of the industry.

Let me show you how they are and why I thought so.

The booth as it has been for the last several times.

Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin
Platinum
41mm

Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin Openworked
Stainless Steel
41mm

Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin Openworked
18K Pink Gold
41mm

And below are what I was allowed to handle in the private viewing.

Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Black Ceramic
41mm
9.5mm thickness

Black ceramic bracelet.

Ceramic case, crown.

Pushers for perpetual calendar adjustment.

Grey dial, with red accent.

Wearing is believing.  Very, very light.  Probably much lighter than you may be thinking now smile)

Soooo attractive Royal Oak.

Now, this is what you haven't seen yet.  What is it?

Jules Audemars Minute Repeater Supersonnerie - Audemars Piguet was quick to make "Supersonnerie" to Jules Audemars Collection with ENAMEL dial.  Just WOW.

Diameter 43mm, thickness 13.5mm.

Compact for the function it does.  "Smoke Blue" color enamel dial.
20mm water-resistant
Power Reserve 72 hours.
Number of parts - 354.

Let's hear it!

Royal Oak Frosted Gold
White gold and pink gold, 37mm (Self Winding) and 33mm (Quartz), for each.

Frosting was done using "Firenze Style Jewelry" technique.  Frosted, yet very smooth surface.  Impressive way of decorating the case/ bracelet.

White Gold 33mm Quartz.

White Gold 37mm Automatic.

Pink gold, 37mm Automatic.

Pink Gold 33mm Quartz.

Royal Oak 15202, Yellow Gold, Champagne Gold dial.

Royal Oak 15202, Blue Dial.

Royal Oak Chronograph
Titanium Case
Platinum Bezel + Bracelet Link

See the "link" polished as they are platinum.

Royal Oak Chronograph
Stainless Steel

Silver x Black

Various Royal Oak Chronograph in Pink Gold case.

Royal Oak Offshore Chronographe
Stainless Steel
42mm

Now, this is NOT what it may look like....

Royal Oak Chronographe
ALL PLATINUM!

REALLY HEAVY!  Good for training... smile)

That's it.  There were many more I wanted to see/ handle privately, but I think I did have enough fun for one day.

As I said, Audemars Piguet is somewhat different from other brands in that they never stopped or spared R&D investment during this time.  Kudos.  I left very impressed with the brand, yet again.

Thank you, Audemars Piguet & Audemars Piguet Japan!

Best,
Ken

I'm not impressed at all? The ceramic case for the RO PC is a good choice, but is it innovation? I think that both VC and PP are currently at higher level than AP, they provide a wider production, from sporty to classic watches.☺ I wonder whether somethin...

I am talking about this particular year's...

Attitude towards R&D aggressiveness. If I may, there are many who showed little to no innovative piece st all for where they are now. You took my words out of the context. Ken

Personal opinion towards common sentiment

I'm always expecting more from AP because of their past and mostly of their present (RP)

Great post ken!

Thank you for the live pics, interested in the new ROC 41 titanium/plat; how did you find the new dial? The Proportions of the subdials? and did they move the date ever so slightly? Would love to hear your thoughts, also did they release the official pric...

Great photos...

Really digging the ceramic bracelete and I will patiently wait for a ceramic 15202 which resembles Karl's from the 70's! Joseph
