Advanced pleasure... (Patek 5550 inside)

By: dr.kol : April 13th, 2015-22:51
Not the Anniversary watch but a medicine against my nightmares. A couple of weeks ago my AD offered me an opportunity to choose an Anniversary piece - either the World Time or the Chronograph. Hard thinking begun... After a some days I replied to the ques...

That is quite incredible your AD kept this watch for you for such a long time.

By: amanico : April 13th, 2015-22:59
Now, the question is how this one will coexist with your 5140P. Will one " kill " the other? Best, Nicolas.

It is totally incredible indeed!

By: dr.kol : April 13th, 2015-23:24
I have been speechless for two weeks now. I had to re-adjust my opinion about 5140P vs. 5550P. The latter is much more readable and the dial is a winner. But the biggest difference is in the engine room. And those differences we do not discuss as much as ...

That is something special , really special.

By: geross : April 13th, 2015-23:21
Patek really likes you to collect their watches. Congrats to you kari. Wear them well. Cheers & best! Geross

Thanks Geross.

By: dr.kol : April 13th, 2015-23:29
Always when Patek calls me a collector, I am correcting them: I am not a collector. I like to have a couple of nice watches and wear them all! I also asked yesterday why the watch was kept for me. The reply was more or less like this: "Patek wants to hear...

phenomenal

By: keks : April 13th, 2015-23:38
This is a fantastic story. Exactly how the entire experience should be in a perfect world. I have had something similar happen to me in the past with a Patek AD. It was not an 18 month affair, but more in the tune of Patek wants to reach people who actual...

Thank you Keks.

By: dr.kol : April 13th, 2015-23:53
Patek is all about great experience and great stories. I must say that 5550P got me with a great surprise. I did not post a wrist shot (yet) because no pictures can tell anything about this watch. The dial is simply stunning: onboard the plane I noticed t...

Just wanted to add:

By: dr.kol : April 14th, 2015-00:06
I'll post one heck of a story in August when I have picked up another Patek from far, far away. It will be a story about a fantastic watch and fantastic Friendship between PuristS. Uh, I nearly forgot that also this new watch is coming... I have been so e...

So true

By: Mark in Paris : April 14th, 2015-03:19
I don't like having too much watches either as I like wearing them all. But when you sell one, then you realize you have the money "available", and this is a trap! Cheers, Mark

Congratulations Kari

WOW what a story…. Your AD is worth his weight in gold. Now down to the watch…. congratulations my friend you have a keeper. What a sublime piece. Perfect in every way. I hope it times only good memories for you.

This is a watch for the next generation!

By: dr.kol : April 14th, 2015-00:34
I will get my name and the dates 13.4.2015 - engraved inside the solid case back and hope that the name of the next owner after me is engaging his/her date, etc. Finally I found some sensible use for the 2nd caseback. Best, Kari

Congrats, Kari! :)

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 14th, 2015-00:42
That is a stunning watch! :) The wait makes it even sweeter...! Best Blomman

Thanks Blomman

By: dr.kol : April 14th, 2015-01:07
But it wasn't a wait. When I said "no" some 18 months ago, I thought it's gone forever. You can't imagine the surprise when I was told that "the watch is still waiting for you in the back of the safe". I went speechless... Best, Kari

Congratulations, dear Kari! Well done and i liked the story!!!

I'm speechless Kari, huge congratulations. I really understand your feelings and thanks for sharing this experience we would love to live too. I understand this was a long time love and I imagine that getting it finally is a great feeling. This watch and ...

A big bravo to that A.D

... such dealers are becoming even more rare than rare Patek watches! Congratulations for a very nice watch and wear it in good health

Impressive store...

By: patrick_y : April 14th, 2015-09:07
They really value your relationship with you! To hold onto a watch for 18 months! Very impressive and a good job to Patek Philippe!

great AD

By: benzng : April 14th, 2015-09:18
you have a great relationship with your AD! He could have easily sold the watch. I have "started" collecting again late last year and saw the pictures of the 5550P. i tried looking for one but did not have the luck. now trying to get a 175 anniv watch, so...

Fantastic story Kari !! You have a very special...

By: GLau : April 14th, 2015-09:34
relationship with your AD and it goes beyond just business !! Have fun with your 5550 for the next few months until your next Patek. Cheers, Gordon

Thanks Glau,

By: dr.kol : April 14th, 2015-12:29
You nearly made me cry: next Patek is in May and then in July. It does not look like I'd manage to reduce my watches this year. But perhaps in 2016. On the other hand, it will be 40th Anniversary of Nautilus. Best, Kari

beautiful watch...

By: mjnoumoff : April 14th, 2015-10:36
surprised your AD was willing to hold it that long as opposed to just selling it an realizing the profit much sooner. Congrats on the watch!!

Indeed!

By: dr.kol : April 14th, 2015-12:33
And I have never done anything good to my AD. Furthermore, it was him offering a good lunch and bribing my wife with all kinds of nice presents. I would simply call it the spirit of Patek Philippe. Best, Kari

Thanks kolosstt

By: dr.kol : April 14th, 2015-12:36
There are watches and other kinds of watches. The new 5550P belongs to the small group were the value of the watch for me is more that the sum of its special features. Best, Kari

Thanks Raymond_S

Indeed, it was like a dream coming true. At the same time this kind of dreams are never really cheap and when having a big family, some consideration is needed. Naturally, the other side of that story is that when the price of 5550P was identical to 5140P...

Very happy for you Kari!

Thanks Robin!

Spectacular service....!!!!

By: Andy : April 15th, 2015-08:54
I hope you will be back in London again soon so we can see this beauty..!! I'm glad the 'funny' one is well but does this mean you'll need to buy another piece for her too..? ;) Speak soon my friend, Andy.

The Funny One got a couple since we met last time.

By: dr.kol : April 15th, 2015-14:55
We will come to see the Grand Exhibition in London on 27th May. If you have nothing else to do, we could meet i.e. on 28th. We could introduce you Anne, a young chick who got her first Patek on the day she was born. Bad start for the life... Best, Kari

Excellent....

By: Andy : April 16th, 2015-09:02
I was actually arranging to come down the following week but will you be there all day on the 28th for an evening GTG..? I could arrive mid day Thur and see if the others are free for dinner.? Speak soon, Andy.

A GTG

By: dr.kol : April 16th, 2015-09:05
on 28th would be wonderful. The Funny One still speaks about the oysters she had last time. Do you mind if I'll be wearing my modest 5550P or my new Calatrava I have ordered? Best, Kari

Ha ha....

By: Andy : April 16th, 2015-09:12
Oysters it is then....I could make do with the 5550P but you really need a Rolex in the collection..!! Ha ha, Andy.

That's what it is all about. Passion and emotion!

By: tempus : April 19th, 2015-23:54
Dear Kari Huge congrats to you for your 5550P. Your dealer made you a customer for a lifetime. Great service and very emotional!!! I love mine very much, too. An awesome and very sophisticated piece. Enjoy! Best Tempus

Iam already a life-long client

and at the moment when having the holidays my biggest issue is an internal wrestling. "To order a Minute Repeater now or a bit later." And for sure I know from where to order. Best, Kari

And the nightmare turns into a dream !

By: Mike H : April 20th, 2015-02:25
That sounds like a fairy tale, but when it happens in real life it's even better, it is like an awakening dream ;-) Quite happy for you Kari, that this 5550P dream has become true. But with all the great novelties you have received this year it will be di...

Thanks Mike,

My crazy year has not ended yet. The next Patek or two will appear in May, perhaps one more before that. And then I need to fly 26 hours in the first days of July to pick up one more... Thought but enjoyable! Best, Kari

A watch that offers past, present and the future in watchmaking

By: COUNT DE MONET : April 20th, 2015-06:00
Another big congratulation to you, Kari. As the headline is saying you have got yourself a very interesting and beautiful Patek. Best Moritz

Thank you Count!

By: dr.kol : April 20th, 2015-07:59
I saw the watch earlier only on the wrist of the CEO of Patek. It was impressive. Now when I'm playing with the watch, I can only repeat what others have said before: "no pictures can do justice to this watch". In fact I love the watch so much that the wh...
