Team,
I had a Zenith El Primero Rainbow Fly Back five years back but it was robbed.
Here is it, on an old picture (Notice the Luminova lume):
After this terrible event, I started a hunt for another without any success. Here where I live, Zenith never had a strong presence.
Time passes and a dear friend grabbed one, full set as it should be, and with the added bonus of having tritium lume with a gorgeous patina.
I took some pictures of his wonderful watch and he stated, “if one day I decide to sell, it will be yours”.
Last month he decided to sent away watches that didn’t match his collection style and there were not only the Rainbow but also two other Zeniths.
I grabbed all:
The Rainbow Fly Back, a Chronomaster Moon Phase and a De Luca latest edition (the one with “Mercedes hands”!!!
I sent, as I always do, the Zenith trio to my watchmakers and the Chronomaster is fine, the Rainbow and the De Luca went to a full service.
The Rainbow was delivered first and the De Luca should be good this week.
After the SS bracelet was removed, here is my Zenith Rainbow Fly Back in full glory, on my wrist:
Even in B&W, to be Darko compliant, it looks great:
The Rainbow movement is the Zenith 405, that is an El Primero Caliber 400 with the addition of the Fly Back complication.
This watch was first made for the French Air Force, as it was show on this catalog from the late 1990’s.

As a conclusion, the combination of the Zenith El Primero 405 and my watchmaker’s “magic”, produced my most accurate Zenith ever. In five days, this watch had a ZERO DEVIATION. I could not be more happy.
Notice that the Rainbow Fly Back is a unusual deviation from the Zenith Rainbow line. All other Rainbow were made for nautical use and carries on the case back, the icon of the Rainbow ship that this line pays homage.
Thanks for seeing.
Cheers,
Nilo
