My bad!

Apologies to those who are not familiar with the Singapore slang; 'kopitiam' would be the equivalent of a cafeteria but situated in the neighbourhoods over the country, where a great variety of food and drinks are served at affordable prices compared to cafés and restaurants. Not to be confused with the food court chain called 'Kopitiam' where it is essentially an air conditioned kopitiam.
I guess it got its name from 'kopi' which is served in all kopitiams. It's coffee with condensed milk, with 2 other common variants called 'kopi-o' which is the Americano equivalent, and 'kopi-c', which replaces the condensed milk with sugar and evaporated milk. Same goes for tea, which is known as 'teh'. A medley of both is known as 'yuan-yang' which literally means mandarin ducks.
An interesting point to note is the composition of the coffee blend used in the kopi beverage; which has more of robusta than arabica in it! Some places also use liberica beans (which honestly I just found out recently) that has a similar taste profile to robusta. I guess this contributes greatly to the strong body and 'kick' of unique to kopi.
Hope I did not confuse anyone further!
Well Luis, I was actually born here in Singapore but went to kindergarten for a short period of time in Japan due to my dad's work. Eventually we came back for good and I lost almost all of my Japanese 'skills', if I ever had any!
