Without the watch's serial number it is impossible...

The watch was made in 1961, based on the serial number.

Am I right to assume that...
watches bearing 5 digit serial numbers were made before 1961, whereas those bearing 6 digit serial numbers were made afterwards? I will probably buy the watch for my wife anyway; I was just looking for some background info because Piaget has never been on...
I don't know that there is a correlation.
Sorry, I don't have more information. Good luck with your purchasing decisions. Piaget is a great manufacture with a high level of skill in both watchmaking, and jewelry creation. The textured gold bracelets on some of those 60s secret watches are amazing...
