Patek Philippe

What I'm wearing today...

While my beloved 5056 is getting a spring cleaning and adjustment at Patek NYC, under the capable supervision of David Jarrett, I switched to an oldie but goodie:

This is a 1952 Patek Philippe Ref 2466, with the 27SC movement (see example below). The last time I wore it was at my wedding in 2000, so it is a cherished memento. References such as these are quite uncommon - to my knowledge only two have come up for auction in the last 10 years.

27SC was the first integrated center seconds movement made by Patek. It was used as the base of my favorite perpetual, the 2497, as the 27SCQ (quantieme). Earlier center seconds movements had a complicated independent seconds transfer pinion installed.

While so many collectors compete for the vintage Ref 96, models such as these, exquisite and pure in design, (both inside and out) go relatively unnoticed. I found it very appropriate that the only people to comment on the beauty of this classic and understated Patek were my tailor and shoemaker. These old-world Italian experts of proportion, quality, and personal style (at Kiton and Testoni), noticed right away.
