I'm near to pull the trigger and buy a Nautilus 5712 in steel for my 40th birthday. However I still have a few questions about this iconic watch... How do you set the time to one-second accuracy ? What's your best method ? As a matter fact, the seconds ha...

Wonderful watch!

If you turn the hour and minute hands counter clockwise, the seconds are stopping. With this method you can set the time very accurately. You can find the dates of full moon i.e. from the home pages of Pate. If the full moon is i.e. the first of October a...

Thanks Kari...

... for your quick reply ;-) >>> If you turn the hour and minute hands counter clockwise, the seconds are stopping. That's exactly what I've though but... is it really recommended to turn the hour and minute hands counter clockwise ? Does it hurt...

I once asked this from Patek.

The manipulation of seconds does not harm the movement. The moon phase is accurate enough. It will be totally accurate over the life time of any human. And be sensible: you will anyhow take the watch for service at least every 100 years. They will then ad...

Thanks again for the clarification

I am sure that you will enjoy your watch. When wearing it, the biggest surprise is the thinness of the watch. Best, Kari

For two reasons: I love its dial I love the 240 which is the caliber I trust the most in Patek world. And thanks to the micro-rotor, the slender design of the case was preserved. A beautiful watch. Fx

Kari said it all. A few additonal thoughts, though...

1/ The accuracy of the moonphase is not that important. You won't wear it 365 days on 365, and you will then have to set the moonphase in accordance with the informations provided by some websites dedicated to the moonphase. THAt is a big con, on the moon...

As always you're right Nicolas ;-)

Actually I'm not really a moon phase geek ! :-) I'm just trying to figure out how accurate is the moon phase and how/when to set it correctly on this watch. I know you were the owner of this watch a few years ago. I can even remember you were finally fed ...

Moonphase

I have a 5712/1A since 2009 and I am still fond of it very much. In fact, I'm never worried about the "correct" position of the moon phase, time and date functions are more important to me and I regard the moon mainly as kind of dial decoration. I fully a...
