Another Nautilus Thread

I've done quite a bit of searching but haven't been able to quite put all the pieces together.  Can anyone help me with the following summary of how the base Nautlius SS models have evolved ? have i missed something ? was there really a gap with the Jumbo from 1990 to 2006 ? why was the 5800 discontinued after such a short run ?

JUMBO’s

3700/1A

Functions: Hours, Minutes, Date

Movement: 28-255C (JLC 920 base), automatic

Case: SS, 42mm, 7.5mm

Production: 1976 to 1990  

5711/1A

Functions: Hours, Minutes, Seconds, Date

Movement: 315 SC

Case: SS 43mm, 8.6mm

Production: 2006 to present  

MEDIUM

3800/1A
Functions: Hours, Minutes, Seconds, Date

Movement: 330 SC, automatic

Case: SS 36mm, 8.3mm

Production: to 1981 to 2006  

5800/1A

Functions: Hours, Minutes, Seconds, Date

Case: SS 38mm, 8.0mm

Movement: 330 SC, automatic

Production: 2006 to 2009

Yes there was a gap.

I'm sure there are a number of reasons but at the time of the 3700, it was large with no seconds hand and from a maker known for gold dress watches, not steel sport watches who also did not have the market awareness it does now. The 3800 met with greater ...
