Watchmaking in Africa

I was always curious whether there is a watchmaking scene in Africa, never saw anything on the watch news sites or Instagram. So decided to check further.

Draken Watches

The brand was started in 2017 by Michael Blythe, a South African-Kiwi, the watches are made in Hong Kong with plans to assemble watches in New Zealand.

Matt Arend

The Company started in Capetown, South Africa in 2014.

The Basotho Heritage watch has a brushed brass dial, installed above a heat tempered polished bronze steel background in a 44mm Steel Case.

The Inkosi Heritage watch case has a 43mm wide, 42mm length and height of 14mm.

Beik+Moll

Founded in 2018 by Karim El Beik and Khalid Moll in Cairo Egypt, their watches have a 40mm case and are powered by a Miyota 2315 movement.

Caveman Watches

Founded in 2018 in Accra, Ghana, the brand gained worldwide recognition when it made a piece unique watch called "Beehive" in rosegold for Beyonce Knowles.

The founder Anthony Mensah Dzamefe has stated he likes to do custom watches.

Asorock Watches

Founded in 2018 by Nigerian-American Ben Iroala and Zambian-American Andrew Mutale, what I really like is their CSR to donate 10% of every watch sold to charities in Chicago and Nigeria.

It's exciting to see that entrepreneurs and Watchmakers in Africa are bringing their own unique take on watches to the World. If only they would get more exposure from the Watch News Press instead of being a secret.
