The CPF of the the Tread 1 is peaking at 10+ levels for sure. I will continue my testing for CPF this evening in Hollywood and send results tomorrow!

Ronald, It is a big watch, no doubt...But, it is not sloppy. We created multiple fit models and refined the weight and fit with multiple sized wrists in mind and the ergonomics are great. You will have to try one on in person to appreciate the fit.

including the strap?

I can't take credit for the engineering. I designed and conceived of the watch and manage the development, but it is our awesome team of engineers who really made the Tread 1 a reality.

Oh...to answer your question about the charger. The one I use is a basic prototype unit that is a simple tower that the watch sits on. The production unit is fixed inside the Tread 1 box and functions in a similar way, where the watch simply sits in a cradle that keeps the juice flowing.

The Tread 1 has large pulleys and huge belts. Turning these takes piles of power and torque, especially the seconds belt which is always clicking away.
The only way to do that mechanically is to hire someone to sit on your lap and wind the watch every 3 - 5 minutes for you. In the interest of innovation and respect for our future customers, we took some liberties to avoid the hassle of having to hire someone to wind your watch.

Alex - this is an electro-mechanical timepiece, not a quartz watch.
That aside, there were no compromises made on this one. The watch was never meant to be mechanical. The idea was to use the most modern technology to create the most pure vision of the original concept...not to repeat what others have done for hundreds of years. I knew the concept was strong enough to take certain risks, if the concept was to do another diving watch with 3 gold hands and sweeping seconds, I guarantee you another approach would have been taken.

questions for you...Is the Tesla roadster not a legitimate car because it doesn't run on gas??? Is an f-22 Raptor an expensive plastic plane, and therefore less valid,  because it doesn't have a prop and metal wings?

minute repeater or world time with the fabulous cloisonné enamel dials are lesser watches but they are quartz and that doen't make my heart tic (pun intended).

Once again I'm just saying that your watch is cool no doubt about it and just reading the replies I'm sure its going to be a huge success BUT the fact that the technilogy used is quartz doesn't do it for me, even though the belts are driven by motors.

One question though: what do you mean by electro-mechanical watch? I understand that the belts are driven b motors thus the mechanical but the electro?

The Tesla Roadster is a great car because it is eco friendly

There is NO DOUBT of the Tread 1 being mechanical, but our acceptance is not an argument, but an integral and intellectual debate of it's soul...that it has not a spring within its heart.

I must point out that the possibilities, the potential for knowledge and advancement is great...with the acceptance of greater differentiation in our creation of all things, even in a wristwatch.

As such, maybe it is wise to consider: Kirk's observation of Spock:

"Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... Human."

In accepting the Devon, the Bulova Accutron and Omega's Mecaquartz design...the Devon Tread 1's place in the mechanical watch world:

"Of all the electronic souless timepieces without a balance wheel, or a spring, THIS is the most Mechanical"

the design aesthetics. I bet they really improve this piece visually in versions 2.0 and 3.0. It reminds me of Urwerk, in the sense that I never really liked the presentation of the original 103x models, but the design updates (e.g. 103T) really brought that piece to life for me. I never really liked MB&Fs Horological Machine #2 either, but I love the new Blue Sapphire version of that. It will be very interesting to see how this piece develops visually....

I almost bought one of these and was in touch with Devon to try and get one.... at the last minute I decided not to... what stopped me...

well no doubt a cool looking watch, big which is great as my other watches are also big, but in my opinion they should have made it a limited edition and then maybe watch collectors looking for cool watches would have snapped it up.  I felit it is a high price to pay for a watch that anyone can pick up in an unlimited run in my opinion.

that when it is limited, it has to be limited not ingenously by market manipulation.

A lesson which the USA had learnt trhu several economic crisis...so..this time, it seems that Devon is playing the true red, white and blue colors of honesty...is you find a Tread 1 hard to get, it's NOT because the company decided to "hold back" on making some ...let's say "green ceramic models" for a while.

I hope to see the Devon company play true, and play ball. And don't fix the game.
