Hi Sham, agree with you on the Atum, it's one of the stars. And it's the right size, many of the other references are simply too big. BUT...
...I saw the watch in person and I'm pretty sure the dial has not been well executed. There seems to be some markings on the dial which can be seen with the naked eye once you know they are there, and they are easily seen under a loupe.
I'm no expert on enamel and the tolerances for imperfection but for me, I would not be interested in this watch because of what I saw. I pointed this out to the MG rep showing the watches at Christies and he agreed that what we were seeing appeared to be in the dial.
Again, I could be wrong and what I saw was not an imperfection and so others input would be needed. That said, I wanted to at least highlight what I saw. Please ask them to take a close up macro of the dial, the lower area close to 6 and 7 (if I recall correctly).

That's what I thought but wasn't certain.
I'm hoping I am wrong about this however and that there was some lighting trickery happening or that the mark was on the crystal and not the dial. I did look close, and I did have the MG rep look at it too, we both thought it was on the dial but I don't believe either of us are experts (the MG rep is new to watches, I believe he was in some kind of machinery sales prior).

because that watch looks so,so good. But more importantly, I need to confirm with Moritz Grossmann that the international warranty will cover a faulty dial too.

Thank you so much Jay for highlighting this. This is most disconcerting especially as Moritz Grossmann's dials are normally spot on. I am not sure what went wrong in the quality control here and if the error can be corrected as we all know how difficult it is to make a enamel dial in the first place. I will contact Christie's and Moritz Grossmann on Monday.
Again, I could be mistaken and hopefully I am. But some other eyes need to check this out if you are not going to see it in person yourself. Fingers crossed that I am wrong about this. [nt]

I aim to pose the question to Christie's and more importantly Moritz Grossmann before the auction closes. Can you remember the name of the MG representative who noticed the flaw too?
I don't recall his name but he was there last Friday evening Nov 30th (he was the only one manning the MG watches, as they were in a case of their own).
I'm pretty sure he said he was based locally in Germany as opposed to being a US based rep. Shouldn't be hard to figure out whom it was.

You could be saving me a lot of money here and it is not often that I would buy a watch without actually seeing it but I thought as it is brand new, it should be perfect! Too presumptious!!

I have spoken to Sandra Behrens, Director of Communication at Moritz Grossmann, who has confirmed that the watch and the dial should be in perfect condition. The watch will be covered with a warranty as it is new. A bit of mind so I now have to try to obtain it since I have been out bided!!!
