Also: "baking" or "burning" coloured enamel (porcelain) in this case will lead to variations anyway.

The real charm of 5131 is in the fact that the dials are so incredibly different. Like somebody noticed, there is also the Climate Change version but that's in the disposal of the Gray Dealer.
I guess every 5131 owner must love his version. At least I love mine!

First of all the watch on the left was not new but either a sample or pre-owned, the strap is not new based upon the curve... secondly, no AD in the globe has two to choose from! I call Bullsh*t!

(There are a bit over 460 Patek dealers. Normally there is one 5131G to be seen in Geneva Salon.

I had a conversation with someone at Patek and they said they knew of no one Patek who has ever been given both a J & a G as well. There are people who have both, but they had to buy one on the secondary market...

It is most unlikely that I would get the second watch from Patek. But I am dreaming to get all four even just two has been published. So it is most likely that I go to the grave owning one but I would not say "only one". I am very happy and continue dreaming.

A very clear answer:
I got my 5131G from an AD at list price. No discounts but fantastic service.
Furthermore, I would never acquire a current production watch from the "gray market" and pay a premium for the same. I have bought some pre-owned pieces but those are discontinued watches that I missed when those were under production. I.e. I bought around one year ago a NOS 5134P Travel Time. I paid for that about the same as the last published list price.
Like I said earlier, I would love to have also 5131J. However, I do not think I can get one through an AD and if that's the case, I will live without one.

No harm in asking
I think the club is pretty small, but it's NOT impossible to get BOTH a G and J from an AD. I don't think there are any rules, but I'm sure continuing to buy Patek's will help you ascend up the waiting list for a 5131J.
BTW, I actually like my J better than the G. That's despite my feeling that the artist who created my G dial did a spectacular job!

Naturally I will ask, even pray
but I will not buy so many Pateks. There are financial reasons but also the fact that I have nearly all the models I want to have just now. There are models that would be nice to own but I don't have the "burn" inside to get those.
Probably the 175th Anniversary will change the situation as well as the new releases in the future.
