My intent was only to clarify the personal reasons why I donāt feel fully compelled by the 5110 even though I think itās a great watch in and by itself.
And I fully agree with you concerning the āscissorsā hands of the 5130!
Sometimes we love the IDEA of a watch more than the watch itself.
On paper, a Patek World Timer is almost impossible not to admire: history, complication, elegance, travel romance, and of course Patek magic.
But at the end of the day, the watch has to catch you EMOTIONALLY on the wrist. Not in theory, not in photos, not in the catalogue, but when you actually wear it.
And if this final spark is missing, then it is probably not the right one, no matter how great the watch objectively is.
Maybe that is the beauty and the danger of collecting: the head can explain everything, but the HEART still has the FINAL VOTE.
were the watches I bought for intellectual reasons: brand prestige, perceived brand value, movement reputation, technical hierarchy, all things like that.
Almost all of those watches eventually left my collection again.
The ones that stayed were the watches that emotionally captured me - completely independent of the brand.
In the end, I think emotions always win (should win) in watch collecting.
emotional reasons can't always be clearly grasped and intellectualized. But I still find it interesting to try to understand them better, even if a part of the mystery remainsā¦
But the 39.5 mm diameter doesnāt work as well as the 37 mm of the 5110 on my wrist.
And as I said in the post above, I just feel more attracted to other kind of Worldtimers and Iām not passionate enough about automatic movements in general and about the 240 in particular.
Thank you for being so understanding and for sharing your wonderful duo!

The 5110 and 5130 are both wonderful references in their own right.
For the reasons I have tried to explain above, they do not evoke in me that obscure but essential feeling Iām looking for, but I know that this is purely personal and that it does not detract from their intrinsic greatness.
Likewise, I absolutely understand your love of the 5110R.

There's no doubt for me that it's a great piece in itself. Were my expectations and inner dreams different I could/would want to own it. Best, Emmanuel
ā¦and of course your pov about 5110 can only be respected but for me ref 5110 will always remain one of the most beautiful worldtimers specially in rose gold and platinum versions
5110 P (and even R) are really top cool but I also didnāt pull the trigger on them again (I say again as I had both of them in the past). Probably I need something more spicy now, a Worldtime that would bring me a WOW effect and not only being super cool⦠Maybe something will come shortly that ticks these boxes⦠š Stay tunedā¦
