The vertical grain on the dial...
...is one of the best I've ever seen (in photos). My small concern are the 'squished' numbers on the date dial.
But if I had the funds, this one would be very hard to pass up...

I like 3940 and its numbers over 5140.
And 5550P has the same type of numbers than 5140.
But: that's how the watch was made, as simple as that. I am sure that all 300 owners can find a a small detail they would like to see a bit differently. However, our right is to apply the watch as it is produced or simply forget that. I did not much like the way the dial of the Anniversary Nautilus was executed. What I did was not to apply for those watches and focus into something else.
For me 5370P is as close to perfection and my taste as any watch can be. However, even in that watch I would like to change something - the price tag.
You are right; the vertical grain of the dial of 5550P is simply amazing.

There are some many Patek I deeply love. However, I have a special admiration when discussing about the Advanced Research pieces. I am very convinced that the Advanced Research project will lead to something none of us can expect. Think about 5650G... it is so different compared to 5250, 5350, 5450 and 5550. It was a jump from a calendar watch towards a sporting watch. One year ago I could not believe that my future swimming partner would be an Advanced Research watch.

While Ive only just begun my affair with PP AR references with the 5650G, I share your passion with both the division's end product, and importantly, the motivation and process which propels their effort.
