A wonderful vintage Patek duo
Two double-signed vintage gold Patek Philippe timepieces powered by the iconic shaped caliber 9-90:
- A Tiffany & Co. ref. 425, a reference produced from 1934 until 1960, when it was replaced by the slightly larger reference 2461. It was nicknamed ‘Tegolino’ by Italian collectors because its rectangular shape resembled a "small tile" (meaning of tegolino) and, possibly, a popular sponge cake also known, for the same reason, as the Tegolino.
- A Gübelin "pink on pink" ref. 1450, a reference produced from 1940 through the end of the 1950s. It was nicknamed ‘Top Hat’ by collectors because its distinctive profile and hooded lugs give the impression of a top hat, a fashionable accessory for men around the turn of the century. Some Italian collectors also refer to this reference as ‘Cinesino’ (Chinese), as the case profile can be seen as reminiscent of a Pagoda architecture.
I know that these references are not very popular, especially the 'Top Hat', but I like them a lot.
Best, Emmanuel
