This movement took three years to develop and features a new lever mechanism. In traditional chronographs the "starting" and "zeroing" of the chronograph mechanism is critical because the chronograph wheel is free for fractions of a second during these sequences. This can, in the event of impact, cause incorrect displays. The new, very special design in the Masterpiece Le Chronographe minimises such a risk. It guarantees the correct positioning of the individual chronograph parts and hence the precision of the displayed information. Maurice Lacroix has a patent pending for this innovation. Also unique is the chronograph counter hand. The vast majority of all chronographs without an hours counter manage with totalizers which achieve 30 or a maximum of 45 minutes. For the Masterpiece Le Chronographe, Maurice Lacroix increased this time span to an exceptional 60 minutes. This rare 60-minute counter requires a greater degree of watchmaking skill. The watch is lavished with outstanding craftsmanship a generous 45mm three part solid 18ct pink gold case, a solid 925 silver dial with applied hours numerals and index marks as well as a centre decorated with the rarely used "Rayon de la Gloire" guilloche decoration. The dial and movement are both lavishly displayed via sapphire glass with anti-reflective coasting on the inside. Exquisite features on the movement include an elegant swan neck precision adjustment for the regulator hand and two real gold chatons in the v-shaped chronograph hook, blued screws and hand-made decorations on plate, bridges and hooks. Precison is guaranteed by both the use of high-quality, perfectly matched components including Glucydur coiled balance wheel with Nivarox-1 balance spring, polished steel pallet and escapement wheel.
