From San Diego to Glashütte
My interest in watches started back in 2016 when my age just touched the "2" for the third time and the purchase of a Resco Instruments Patriot Gen1. Retrospectively I was stupid and naive paying thousands of bucks for a micro-brand that didn‘t do anything special but selling me their glory of the mighty SEALs.
The watch was fine but it kept bothering me that I could‘ve had an Aquaracer, a Seamaster or a Colt for about the same but them actually being genuine and almost iconic in design.

When the end of my apprenticeship approached I was on the hunt for an acquisition of something distinct and timeless. Days after days were spent with reviews from our precious Tim – to whom I have to thank most of my knowledge – until I had another glimpse at the Speedmaster. Initially I wasn‘t sold on it and didn‘t like it for reasons I can‘t recap anymore.
I just felt it was imperfect. It‘s like with women. You like their look the first time? As fast as you like them, as fast they‘ll get you bored. Take a deeper look and you‘ll appreciate the things that you were unsure at first!

Meanwhile I made a name to myself throughout all the communities, named "datograph". Vast knowledge, sophisticated opinions, direct, honest but also ruthless and rude. That‘s me, sorry!
Four years of abstinence, I just finished my first semester of machine engineering. It was about time to reward myself. Lots of watches accumulated on my short list but many of them had something I truly despise: faux patina, bad dates, thickness, wrong diameter, effortless tributes and so on.
The blue SeaQ is about the most perfect compromise that was there. At release I was already sold on the size and thickness. Just perfect, like 5-digit Subs. The dial, the polished center links, the solid case back and the 25 year old movement put me off. The watch was done for the time being.
Later when they released the blue dial version I had another and deeper look. The sheer amount of detail put into this watch was simply astonishing. It grew on me and I finally pulled the trigger!

They hit the blue perfectly. It's suits almost any style. The bracelet is definitely the best in class. Glashütte Original already sourced their bracelets from Brogioli in 2006/07 for their Sport Evolution.
Having the micro-adjustment-clasp that is common today, they were the actual industry leaders before Rolex introduced their Glidelock in 2008 and scooped all the fame. With time their bracelet and clasp evolved just enough to maintain the leadership.
