I just happen to stumble upon this wonderful site and am hoping your collective expertise could help answer a warranty question.
I recently purchased a Patek 4906 (ladies Calatrava) for my wife at an authorized jeweler during our Xmas holiday visit to Hong Kong. I noticed that the date on the battery sticker had transpired (4/04) and requested that they replace the battery prior to purchase, which they did. We returned to the US the following day and observed that the watch was running slow and stopping, at times.
We suspected that the "new" battery may not have been fresh, made a few calls to local Patek authorized jewelers and visited one of them. They tested the battery, in-watch using some sort of electronic sensing device, and were told that the battery is fine. Furthermore, we were told that they could not open the watch without voiding the factory warranty. Had I known this, I would not have requested the original battery replaced, upon purchase. We called the jeweler in Hong Kong which informed us that the warranty still holds since the battery was replaced by them, an authorized dealer. This information conflicts with the two local, US dealers.
Can anyone shed some light into this before we try to contact Henri Stern in NY.
Perhaps, there is a newbie Patek FAQ that someone can point me to.
The watch appears to be running fine, for the last 24 hours, but we are a bit concerned with the initial accuracy problem, potential warranty issues and long term reliability of this unit.
BTW, my wife loves the watch.
Sincerely,
David
