Gents,
I finally managed to get the Patek 5738p. I can still not justify the purchase but Nautlilus, Calatrava , Ellipse are the iconic Pateks. They are the face and identity of the Patek. Somehow deep down i just feel that it is an overpriced anniversary edition. Will appreciate if other owners can comment or other afficianados have something to say on this so i can console myself.

I was offered one by my AD...
due to the high price, I passed on it. The ellipse is the least popular men's PP watch, by percent of all PP watches made annually.
I'm not an owner of the 5738P but I would suspect
that this is not your only Patek. The other post regarding the popularity of the Ellipse is accurate. When I was a dealer, I would guess that in twenty-seven years I sold four or five Ellipses for men but far more jeweled and bracelet versions for women. ...
