In April 2000 I got a pocket watch made by Patek Philippe. It is of solid gold and it is still working. My wife contacted Patek Philippe in Geneve with a letter. We received a letter from Patek Philippe and they advised us to contact Christie?s in Geneve in this matter.
What I know about this watch is the following:
- I believe that my grandfather got it from his father for his 50th birthday back in 1922, but I?m not sure about it. There is a carving on tha backside of the watch with the letters BN, probably standing for Bengt Nybom, my grandfather.
- We have spoken with a couple of specialists (one in Harrod?s, London), and they said that this piece is of solid gold and that this is a very valuable piece, but they couldn?t valuate it, because this kind of timepieces are rarely sold in Finland. The man in London advised us to contact Patek Philippe in Germany, but we haven?t done that yet.
- When I opened the back of this timepiece(I understand now that I should not have opened it!) I found two numbers, one on the case and one on the movement. I really don?t know the difference between these parts, but the numbers are 282089 on the case and 185829 on the movement (if I am correct about the parts)
Now we would like to know what could possibly be the value of this timepiece and when and where and by whom it is manufactured? If you need pictures of this timepiece, I could provide you with some, preferrably by e-mail, if possible. For the time being I have this timepiece deposited in a safe in my bank.
Can anybody help me?
PS. Some days ago I found out that this timepiece is manufactured in 1918-1919.
