shortys home initiates a community roll-call, inviting WatchProSite members to share their personal 'Watch of the Year' for 2017. Henrik kicks off the discussion by presenting his Blancpain Leman Flyback Split Second A'Toute Vitesse, a watch he acquired sight unseen from another continent, highlighting the excitement and personal connection collectors form with their chosen timepieces.

Iā€˜ll make a start...

This year I had the pleasure of having more encounters with a nice variety of fine timepieces then ever before. After some really nice pieces having come to me, some also really nice pieces having left, after having taken approximately 5000 photos (with most of them deserving deletion immediately 😬), my personal decision still did only take longer than a millisecond...

How could it not be the Blancpain Leman Flyback Split Second Aā€˜Toute Vitesse? I jumped on it the moment I saw the chance to get my hands on it, with quite a lot of uncertainties since I did only see the watch online and the seller was located on a different continent. When it arrived it was just plain perfect, the surprise of the watch being No. 1 of 12 was the icing on the cake 🤩

Now, please join this roll-call. Iā€˜m curious on what you call your personal watch of the year šŸ¤—

Cheers
Henrik

My GS, Doxa and Sinn are all purchases of this year, and my Mark XII was sold to my friend as well. Very high turnover for me. What watch will be watch of the year? Hard to say, I think I’ll have to say my GS. This watch changed my perspective on watches and what I believe is good value. Since buying this watch, my collection and collecting habits will not be the same. It’s funny, buying this watch actually got me into George Daniel’s and Roger Smith. This watch is commercially available and mas

What a pleasure! Did you get both of those this year? That’s wild! I would’ve had a sensory overload myself. ā€œDoctor, what’s wrong him?!ā€ ā€œThis one looks like a Patek overdose, I don’t know why they do it to themselves! He might yet live!ā€ I’m a big fan of the Aquanaut, such a fun watch.

It’s hard to explain though, I’ll have to try to put it into words. It was one of those ā€˜rabbit hole’ moments. When one train of thought or enquirer leads to another, and another and so on. Now I look at watches differently. Roger Smith really changed my perception too.

It was a watch that took me years to deliberate over and for someone typically not ready to spend on precious metals, it was a jump. It has been my go to watch for most of the year, and if going by by tracker, between February to November, this watch spent 155 days on my wrist.
