Dr No, a respected voice within the WatchProSite community, initiates a crucial discussion on forum etiquette and content moderation. His post addresses the delicate balance between fostering open dialogue and maintaining the site's core focus on horology, particularly in the wake of a controversial, politically charged thread. This piece explores the community's collective reflection on preserving a convivial atmosphere while navigating sensitive topics.

. . . for a moment?

One of our longest-serving community members, François [log-in: Sandgroper], recently posted a thread commending the ongoing Canadian truckers' convoy.

Our site's long-standing protocol has been avoidance of political or religious commentary to eliminate distractions from our express purpose: conversation regarding the appreciation of wristwatches, horology, and the finer aspects of life.  We aim to host a virtual cocktail party where conversation is both convivial and tempered, just as one would conduct oneself at an actual cocktail party.

François' thread was the cause of consternation and controversy for some, and has since been removed.

Regardless of the reasons for its removal, it is troubling that his thread elicited comments that could only be characterized as unfeeling.  Even if one is compelled to disagree with a position, a reply should be worded sympathetically for a community member in anguish as François must be at this moment.

I'm saddened to learn he won't be participating here anymore.  In the interest of avoiding conflicts like this in the future, all comments regarding covid and the pandemic will be subject to removal.

Kindness and consideration are also virtues.

By the way, almost everything is political. Post a photo of a politician wearing a watch, and here we are. Same for guns, knives and so on. Even pets are political. And what about posting a super expensive watch, in a world where a lot of people are living tough financial times? What about posting a Rolex, when the politic of this brand is to tell their customer that there is nothing to buy? What about cars, which kill a lot of people every year on our roads and pollute our planet? What about el

If this is a place to express some views, pls understand it is ok to disagree. It is also ok to walk away because I don't think anyone will seriously flip 180 deg after seeing you/my comments. Who, has the authority to judge what is Right or Wrong, seriously in today's world? Who are you or me that other people will give a damn? It is only applicable in the context of law. If you're in a place where something you feel is wrong but it is the tradition of that place, what can you do? 200% agree we

Watch (Not as much), cars, then some spin offs... this is my take. People are all different with their own point of view or bias. I think it is good for different people to come together. People can post opposing opinions on topics. Personal attacks, however, reflect poorly on the person posting them and don't have a place. Me personally, I never take things people say online to heart. If it is something I don't like, thread closed. On to the next one.

Political is such a charged word and it seems very hard to get down to the points. Political Politics is the way that people living in groups make decisions. Politics is about making agreements between people so that they can live together in groups such as tribes, cities, or countries. For us in the community/forum we all just want to get along there are no hidden agendas. But because we can't see the person in front of us as we type we sometimes come across not in the way we intentend whether
