respo shares an engaging recap of the Watchtime Inside Basel and Geneva fair, focusing on Vacheron Constantin's offerings. This post provides a collector's firsthand impressions of key models, including the Malte and Overseas, offering valuable insights into their on-wrist presence and aesthetic appeal.

I attended the Watchtime Inside Basel and Geneva watch fair and dinner last night.   A lot of fun and some nice watches.  I spent a lot of time at the VC area, so I did not see as much of the other brands as I should have, but Vacheromn had some really nice shiny things to look at...

Apologies in advance for the lousy photos -- I should stick to my day job.

You know I have a thing for Les Historiques...I'll take one of each below, please.

And then there was this...

I have to say the Anniversary Malte has really grown on me since it was first announced.

With a little coaxing, the malte came out from its display case to play.

I am not sure how I feel about it on my wrist.  It wears quite big, and I fear it is a bit too large for me.

Now, here, I think it looks absolutely perfect on Joe's (4Js) wrist. Get it, Joe, get it!

This is a special Malte.  The last one!

I had to take a photo of the Malte next to my date for the evening.  No worries, 1921, no matter where my eye wanders, I know which watch I am leaving with at the end of the night.

But isn't the Malte stunning?  I mean!

4Js was wearing this absurdly beautiful piece...

That was the first time I have ever seen and handled the Malte perpetual chronograph, and I must say it did not disappoint.  It really is magnificent. That dial just sparkles. I am afraid I missed my chance to get an Excellence Platine with this dial.  :-(

Of all the watches that Vacheron had on display last night, one really popped from the display cases:

The blue is to die for especially in contrast to the white hour markers. Every Vacheron fan should have an Overseas, and this is a gorgeous option. Just a wonderful addition to the Overseas lineup.

The highlight of the evening was getting to meet and discuss watches with Joe. What a nice surprise -- we were like kids in a candy store last night. Joe's taste in watches runs similarly to mine, so naturally I think he has great taste.  ;-)

And of course,VC's own Daniel Adams, CRM Assistant Manager and Concierge, and Russell Kelly, National Sales Director, were our charming and very well informed hosts at the VC corner of the fair. Thank you, gentlemen, for making the evening so much fun for us. It is always the people that make this passion and these events so great. The watches are the icing on the cake.

Thanks for looking and hope you enjoyed a little taste of the event.

Best,

About the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Ref. American1921

The Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 is a distinctive reinterpretation of a cushion-shaped watch originally produced by the manufacture for the American market in the 1920s. This reference is characterized by its unique diagonal display, with the crown positioned at the 1 o'clock position and the dial rotated 45 degrees clockwise. This design was historically intended to allow drivers to read the time without removing their hands from the steering wheel, offering both a functional and aesthetically unconventional presentation within the Historiques collection.

This particular iteration of the American 1921 features a case crafted from precious metal, often rose gold, with a polished finish that highlights its cushion shape and stepped bezel. The watch is typically fitted with a manual-winding mechanical movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, providing a power reserve suitable for daily wear. The crystal protecting the dial is also sapphire, ensuring clarity and scratch resistance.

The American 1921 appeals to collectors seeking pieces with historical provenance and an unconventional design. Its distinctive orientation and vintage inspiration make it a conversation piece and a unique offering within Vacheron Constantin's contemporary lineup. Various sizes have been produced, catering to different wrist preferences while maintaining the core design principles of the original 1921 model.

What a watch! A very serious contender to the PP 5970. I even think I prefer it to the Patek. This watch has all: Class, presence, distinction. It is a winner. Best, Nicolas

But the Malte Chrono QP, particularly the Excellence Platine, is playing the big leagues in terms of complications, metal and finish. It is hard to compete with such a magnificent watch as this. The moonphase alone sets it apart from mere earthbound watches. I was so delighted to have a chance to see Joe's last night. He was very brave to let me examine it as he was distracted by other watches and I had already checked out where the nearest exit was... ;-) Thanks for looking, Vlad. respo

Those darn display cases really mess with the photography :-( Still, its enough to make one lust. The wrist shot of the Tonneau is especially attractive. IMHO a classically elegant simple design such as that would really shine if a display back revealed an engraved or otherwise embellished movement! Saltarello comes to mind, or even the current Historiques 1955.

...You have great passion and thanks for sharing. From this and the HL, you have really convinced me to have an Overseas. I do like the OS with deep blue dial. The more I see watches of other brands, and their prices, I keep getting drawn to VC. No one else has their sense of balance. The Malte is stunning. Did they have my 'baby' VC - the Patrimony Traditionelle manual wind 4400. I call it the 'baby' VC because it is seldom discussed and pictures are seldom shown. Yet, I love and adore this fir

I'm glad you had a great time with the watches and the other collectors, especially Joe. And now I know why Daniel hasn't gotten back to me in a timely fashion ! Bill

...just reach out to me. I will dispel any doubts for you! ;-) As I wrote, this blue dial really pops and is amazing in person. I had some doubts before seeing it last night, to be truthful. I don't believe I saw the Patrimony Traditionelle manual wind 4400 in the cases last night, which is a pity. I don't think we should call this the "baby VC," however. I believe it is one of the finest simple manual wind dress watches on the market today. The movement is a relatively new in-house caliber, and
