The Vacheron Constantin Overseas reference 4240 represents the brand's sports watch offering in a 42mm case configuration. This reference features a blue dial treatment within the Overseas series lineup.
The watch houses an automatic movement within a stainless steel case measuring 42mm in diameter. A sapphire crystal protects the blue dial, while the fixed bezel provides a streamlined profile. Water resistance extends to 150 meters, supporting everyday wear scenarios.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a contemporary sports watch from Vacheron Constantin in stainless steel. The 42mm case size and blue dial combination positions this piece within the accessible segment of the Overseas range, offering the series' design language in a steel construction with automatic movement functionality.
VC few published the production of one type movement or reference . For example, the Chronometre Royal with caliber1007&1008. In 1942, the VC produced Ref. 4240, triple calendar, using caliber 455 . Then caliber 485, 495 were produced, with models 4240οΌ4241, 4461, 4462, 4560 and 4623. During World War II, I thought the production was actually scarce. What indicates your estimation figures per year are by far to high. Those refs are pretty rare.
I've read this article carefully before, but unfortunately I haven't saved it (because THL is closed). Now I reading it, there is a feeling of reunion between old friends.

I think to get a better understanding of the production figures, you have to look closely at the V&C Chronograph watches of that time. Why? Because they have been in a very close price bracket. And you should think about, if they would have been sold better, similar or even worse than the Chronographs. I guess they sold almost similar in total, maybe a little less.
