Blomman Mr Blue shares a fascinating encounter with a fellow collector, highlighting two Universal Genève Polerouter watches that, at first glance, appear almost identical. His detailed comparison of these vintage pieces, one a bumper automatic and the other a microtor, offers valuable insights into the subtle yet significant variations within the Polerouter line, particularly regarding their case designs and movements.

Not long ago I had a small GTG with one of my local friends...
As always great to catch up and discuss watches!
smile

But this time he really made my jaw dropp…

Out of his bag he pulled something that at first glace, I thought was my watch?!
A  Universal Geneve Polerouter with perfect chocolate patina!

My friends watch: Polerouter, Crosshair dial with sweet chocolate patina!

Unfortunately I didn't have my UG Polerouter with me, but look at mine and you will understand why I thought he was pulling a trick on me!

OK, after a closer look you see the differences...

His being a early bumper automatic, mine being a paten pending microtor.
His watch also being a tad larger (1-1.5mm? in diameter), wider bezel and with slightly larger lugs.

On the back the differences are shown more clearly...

My friends watch: higher case back, with extra volume for the bumper rotor. Earlier UG logo engraving.

Mine, with a flatter case back, thinner lugs and Polerouter logo:

Next time we meet, I hope to make the pair shot!

Big thank you, my friend for showing me this beauty!
