Horology75's recent acquisition of a Bamford x Peanuts Snoopy watch from Harrods sparks a vibrant discussion among collectors. This article delves into the community's initial reactions and expert opinions on the watch's design, horological merit, and Louis Vuitton's broader strategy in the luxury watch market. Horology75's post serves as a timely catalyst for exploring the evolving landscape of high-end collaborations and brand repositioning.
So I was at the Harrods Dept Store in London and saw them selling Bamford designed and branded watches . Out of curiosity asked if they have any Peanuts Snoopy partnership watch as they had done a run with King nerds x HODINKEE etc …my luck was that they were able to source one for me .. simply like the vivid colours and the look … what are your thoughts ?

Key Points from the Discussion
- The new Louis Vuitton Tambour line, despite its thinner profile, retains the 'Tambour' name, which historically referred to the thick, drum-like cases of previous models. The movement, while well-finished, is not considered haute horlogerie level, and its external sourcing raises questions about the brand's commitment to in-house watchmaking.
- The author of the original post's Bamford Snoopy watch, with its vivid neon green, is seen as a fun, statement piece, though potentially challenging to pair with everyday attire. It evokes a connection to high-performance luxury, such as a Lamborghini sports car.
- Louis Vuitton's strategy for the new Tambour line aims to attract 'good' collectors from established top watch brands, not just existing LV clients. The pricing, particularly for the steel versions at €19.5k, is considered competitive within this new market segment.
- Concerns were raised regarding Louis Vuitton's formation of a new advisory board composed of highly compensated watch journalists. This arrangement, described as 'Saudi-sized' compensation, suggests a potential conflict of interest that could influence journalistic independence and brand perception.
- Despite initial reservations based on photos and industry insights, some collectors reserve final judgment on the new Tambour until they experience the watch in person. The success of the line will ultimately depend on its quality and market reception, regardless of marketing efforts.
- The aesthetic and horological appeal of the new Tambour is acknowledged, but its success hinges on Louis Vuitton's ability to reposition itself effectively in an exceptionally competitive luxury watch market.
