Aquaracer1 introduces his new Seiko SPB501, a special edition diver that has captivated him with its emerald dial and bezel. His initial impressions highlight the watch's strong value proposition and impressive aesthetics, particularly how the dial transforms in different lighting. This post offers a detailed review of the SPB501's design, wearability, and updated bracelet, positioning it as a compelling choice for summer.

The new Seiko SPB501, released as a special edition in June of this year, is extremely attractive, has a high value proposition and will satisfy my new obsession with green (for now) πŸ˜‚ 40 mm case size.

Initial impressions are very strong: Starting with the star of the show, the emerald dial and bezel, which look matte in low lighting situations. In direct sunlight, the bezel stays a matte emerald, but the sun burst dial pops revealing not only a deeper, darker green tone, but also waves on the surface of the ocean 🌊 The rectangular dial indices are perfectly symmetrical and the the handset gives you that cool retro vibe.

Next up the case: Measuring 40 x 46.4 x 13 mm, the proportions work very well for my 7 inch wrist. Interestingly, I’d say this wears closer in size to my 39 mm BB58 than say a 40 mm Sub, for example. The case shape is killer. In true vintage skin diver fashion, it’s a nod to the original Seiko MAS, from the 60’s. Check out the polished beveled edge, squared off lugs, no crown guard, cool wave engraving on solid case back and the way the lugs perfectly curve to hug the wearers wrist. For me, this is a beautiful case and it doesn’t get much better than this.

Seiko updated their bracelet with this new model; It’s solid and sturdy. Comfortable. You get micro adjust on the fly (in a few different positions), a solid milled deployant and a clam shell safety part with smooth twin tigger release.

This is my first Seiko. So far, this piece punches WAY above its weight. I have yet to find a better value at this price point. Super happy with my new Seiko diver! This could be the ultimate cool summer watch 😎 Thanks for stopping by Friends! 🍻

Initially I was unsure for two reasons 1) No Seiko store nearby to try before I buy, 2) Some of the Seiko bracelets and clasps I’ve seen and handled in the past were quite underwhelming. But not this one! It’s worked out well! In fact, the bracelet is 20 mm at the lug and gently tapers down to 18 mm at the clasp πŸ‘πŸ»

u presented a dilemma for me πŸ€” I was going to try and pick up the BB54 37mm when I return to TPE, but this Seiko looks very attractive to me too 😍

Full disclosure, I have not tried on the BB54 yet. However everything I’ve read leads me to believe it will be a much different fitting and wearing watch than my green Seiko. Starting with the obvious, cases size being 3 mm smaller and lug to lug will be a couple mm shorter as well, and also approx 3 mm thinner. The more direct comparison of course with my green Seiko is my BB58 at 39 mm. The BB54 will also be a bit more expensive. But if you don’t care about the larger case size (as compared to

I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a PADI Seiko, they seem to be a cut above in design, features & value.
