Mixed feelings @ the rolex booth in Basel this year.  I would summarise it as the "Beauty" and "the Beast"

you might have guessed that the beauty is the new Rolex Yachtmaster in everose gold and oysterflex
bracelet. This model however didn't get the new upgraded movement

The 37mm is a nice addition but I can't help to say that the watch looks much more balanced   in the 40mm

Now to the ugly - or the beast smile the day-date 40mm in platinum is a true miss - at least in this dial configuration.

It seems very sporty and different to the Fifty Fathoms in rose gold. It is much smaller but looks equally stunning. I think that this will be a very popular model. It was about time to give a revamp to the yacht master collection. Well done rolex !!

You might not see it clearly from these photos but the pattern of the ice-blue dial makes the writing on the deal almost unreadable. It also doesn't look as stunning as the classic ice-blue. This was a big miss in my opinion. Hopefully they will add
some more dials soon.

The new romans on the platinum do not look right either. The 36mm roman numerals are much nicer in my opinion.

I am not sure if the 40mm was a good size replacement for the day-date II. Rolex will know better
but I can't help to compared the old rose gold day date II with the new one and it seems a step back:

Still the everose gold version is not such a big miss as the platinum one.

Again the platinum new dial.  A lot of magic lost here vs the day-date II platinum or the 36mm day-date platinum. Due to the difficult patterns of the dial it is difficult to read even the brand rolex on it. May be it was the light but still it was a disappointment. I think they could have introduced this as an alternative dial but..as the main one ?

I wil sum it in two words: Coolness for the new YM, exciting for the new movement.

Nothing else for me, this year... And not sure I wouldn't get rid of the Everose YM, after a while... Best, Nicolas

yes indeed the YM ...

is very interesting and cool - but could it be boring after a while ? Difficult to say. The new movement is truly exciting and I think that sets a great standard for the new DD. Pity that the YM doesn't include a new exciting movement too.

Fashionable... Don't you think it is its main danger, Bill?

Exactly. That is why i chose the word fashionable.

Most of the time i think of the word "timeless" to describe Rolex. Bill
