Comex 5513 and the mf 1680 Red Submarner. These are close cousins the Comex gaining a small advantage with helium release valve.

Both watches express a strong character and are very happy to be near the ocean.

Individually each one has distinct visual keys. The red submariner 1680 with the iconic red text on the dial and unrelenting height of the top hat giving the watch a unique feel.

For the 5513 Comex a more unassuming and understated look. The early prototype Comex watches that came out in the first batch did not mostly feature the Comex logo on the dial but under the hood it featured the key advance with the HEV. These watches were workhorses giving to divers as tools that took a lot of abuse. The first batch numbered under 200 featured the small number and the distinct Comex text on the case back.

This little feature is being written live. I apologize to our European friends that find themselves under the cold and snow. So I will leave you with a little warm weather picture to warm you up.

About the Rolex Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 1680

The Rolex Submariner reference 1680 is notable as the first Submariner model to feature a date complication, marking a significant evolution for the line. Introduced in the late 1960s, it bridged the gap between the earlier no-date Submariners and later iterations, offering enhanced functionality while retaining the robust characteristics of the professional tool watch. This reference is distinguished by its single cyclops date magnifier on the crystal, a feature that would become a hallmark of many subsequent Rolex models.

This reference typically features a 40mm steel case, housing the self-winding Caliber 1575 movement. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The crystal is acrylic, commonly referred to as Plexiglas, contributing to its vintage aesthetic. Water resistance for the 1680 is rated at 200 meters, consistent with its design as a reliable underwater instrument.

For collectors, the reference 1680 is highly sought after, particularly early examples with "Red Submariner" dials where the word "Submariner" is printed in red. These variants represent a distinct period in Rolex's production history and are prized for their rarity and aesthetic appeal. The 1680 appeals to those who appreciate the blend of historical significance, functional design, and the tangible qualities of vintage Rolex manufacturing.

That is how I like the Comex. Without logo on the dial.

Very nice pair, my friend... Agree that the discrete look of your Comex is a strong asset. The HEV says it all. Best, Nicolas

I am happy for the Comex it its original configuration

There is no denying the Comex logo on the dial is a nice feature but this one came like this from the original owner diver and I have the full provenance diver pictures and everything. So yes I am very happy with this discreet version. Only the specialized eye will notice and as we all hope is to bump into another collector who will notice the detail and an interesting conversation will ensue. Best Bill
