Echi's recent experience with a friend wiping his Rolex Explorer with a shirt sparks a relatable discussion among collectors about watch care etiquette. This thread delves into the nuanced perspectives on handling luxury timepieces, balancing the 'tool watch' philosophy with the inherent desire to preserve these intricate machines. Echi's post highlights the often-unspoken anxieties collectors face when their prized possessions are handled by others.
I certainly would stop him if his shirt is made from steel wool or sand paper! Hopefully, there is not such a shirt, so probably not much harm with saphire crystals these day. Anyway, I would think about wiping the watch myself before handing it to him. (But since I don't carry cloths with me.....not always possible.)
But regardless, unless heโs wearing micro fiber, itโs going to be painful to watch ๐

I think for me it will be handing the watch only if I know the person to be an enthusiast. If not, best to err on the side of caution and just leave it on the wrist and at an appropriate distance away. ๐
