About the Rolex Datejust Ref. 116234

The Rolex Datejust reference 116234 represents a contemporary iteration of the classic Datejust, characterized by its combination of Oystersteel and an 18k white gold fluted bezel. This reference is part of the six-digit Datejust series, which introduced updated case proportions and bracelets while retaining the fundamental design language of the model line. It offers a versatile aesthetic, suitable for various occasions, and is a staple within the Rolex catalog for those seeking a blend of precious metal and robust construction.

This particular reference features a 36 mm Oystersteel case, housing the automatic caliber 3135 movement, known for its reliability and precision. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial, ensuring durability and legibility. The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters, making it suitable for everyday wear and light water activities.

Collectors often appreciate the 116234 for its wide array of dial options, including the distinctive tuxedo or bullseye dials, which offer a unique visual appeal compared to more traditional Datejust configurations. The choice between an Oyster or Jubilee bracelet further allows for personalization, catering to different preferences for sportiness or dressiness. This reference appeals to those who value the enduring design of the Datejust but with the subtle enhancements of a modern production period.

Absolutely not. Too casual for a dressy guy? Again, absolutely not.

Oh, and Prince William has been wearing the same Omega Seamaster 007 since Diana, his mother, gave to him as a young man. If I may say so, and saving the great differences, I’m assisting to a highfalutin wedding on Friday and I’ll wear my dear Explorer when I could wear something else to match the Hermès tie. 🤷🏻‍♂️😉

If casual is a sport jacket, v neck sweaters and corduroy then , no, it’s not too dressy but if we’re into the ball cap, hoodie and jeans casual then the baton indices are a better choice. I remember eyeing that exact datejust in the case when it was current, and being under its spell though never acquired it. Great watch 🙂

From your response, I’m hearing “versatile.” The Omega AT is one piece I think of when I say that word, but I’ve owned it in the past (3 times!) so it’s time to try something different

Looking good! What Ex I is that? The other Rolex I’m considering is a 114270 or 124270, but leaning towards the latter 🍻
